85 22re auto, idle drops when hot

Hi on my 22re Motorhome after I drive awhile the idle which is around 700-900 in drive drops at a red light to almost stumbles and dies but never dies to around 500 rpm. This makes my alternator not produce enough to charge the battery, my main concern. Any help or ideas? Pete

Chck the EGR valve, it may be plumbed wrong or sticking open. Try tapping on it at idle and see if it smooths out. EGR should operate when the engine warms up, but not at idle. Make sure the E and R ports on the throttle body connect to the right ports on the EGR modulator.
