84pu to 88 4runner tranny swap/rebuild?? questions
Okay, So I have a 84 4x4 pickup with a 82 2x4 motor in it.
The transmission I have bolted up~ish.. lol, it lines up and takes most the bolts, this transmission was never good. Bought used.
OKay so anyways. that doesnt seem to be a problem at all..
I have an 88 4runner transmission. and the shifter is farther back plus the diff shifter is.....
I pulled this out of one of my trucks and it worked great.
So, any bodies opinion on the best way too go for this?
I'm thinking about taking both them down to the basement and pulling them apart too see if i can swap the inside parts... gears what not.
Would that be a waste of time?
Should I ditch my nice bench seat and put the 88 4runner transmission in.... try to find a used one... rebuild my pickup one?
Oh so many questions, also.... on my old comp I had tons of sites saved that could have helped...
One of those had all the toyota transmissions with color pictures and details.... best ways to figure out what model you have..... any body know of that site?????

Seems to be the same transfer case. Same dimensions same length to both output shafts. The one out of my 84 has a cap plate over the area where the shifter is in the 88. I'd assume there's just a connecting rod that moves it forward into the transmission.

I think I have one each transfer case sitting on the shelf and can look and see the difference when I get home. One of them has two prongs that slide into the transmission. Not sure how the other is hooked up.

Well either way, without the transmission out of the pickup I wouldn't have anywhere to extend the transfer case shifter too.
left 88 4runner - right 84 pickup
So if I just put the 4runner set up in the pickup it would move my shifter back. Way back... lol. Not sure if this is a good time for a duel shifting t case set up..
