Exclamation 84 toyota pickup 22r wont turn over. pls read!

I recently just replaced all wiring connections for the charging system i.e alternator to regulator and ect.

today when i came home from work i tested my battery again for good measure to see what it was getting. the multimeter showed about 17.8 v which i know is too high for the system.

right after that i pulled the negative battery cable off to see if it would die and it didnt, it just idled very low. a few seconds after that i put the cable back on, let it sit running about a min and then pulled it off again this time the truck died and will not turn over. the started engages, all fuses are good, and full power to dash.

please help me! i just got this thing running again!

So, the solenoid clicks but the starter does not spin the engine?

If so, measure battery voltage. If you are 11.8V or greater, smack the starter body, not the solenoid, with a hammer a couple times. Try to crank, repeat if it doesn't work. Smack it fairly hard, but don't overdo it.

Could be something up with your regulator/battery as well. When you say 17.8V do you mean while the truck is running or not running?

the starter does engage. it seems like no spark. i was told to replace the signal generator in the distributor which i did and no spark still.

Did you gap the signal generator? If it's not gapped properly it won't work. Have your 12v going to the ignition module?

It doesn't take much to get from "Seems like its not getting any spark" to "Its not getting any spark"

Maybe pull a plug wire boot off and hold the wire close to the plug while it cranks.

No fuel acts a lot like no spark. Both result in no fire.

Spark,or no spark?

Then "fuel?,or no fuel? A little(teaspoon) trickle of Sea Foam or gas in the carb will tell you if it runs with fuel.If it hits, its getting spark.
