84 pickup shipping cost $1,200, and basic info on model

well this is my first post and i need info asap..

my grand father passed recently and willed me a 84 toyota short bed std cab 4x4 5sp truck it has 100k miles, has been stored in a garage for 12 years has no rust, and a nice cap. its condition is overall very good and is mechanically sound..

the issue im coming across is that the shipping costs to get the truck from cali to nj will be 1100 to 1300 im just wondering from you guys if it will be worth it to have it shipped or not

a few things ive noticed on the truck that caught my eye is that it has a solid front axel , which i do beleve will save me money when i lift it....is there any thing else you guys can thing of that would make it not worth the 1200 ?
thanks -dave

Worth every penny!

If it hadn't been stored for so lomg, I would suggest flying out and drive it back. But there could be many things waiting to go bad after storage (not really bad, but could add expense and time to the return trip)

if you have the time, it might be more cost-effective to fly to cali and drive it back. you could have a lot of fun with that vehicle as a starting point. i'd consider doing it.

If its really clean and has pretty low miles on it, like that one, its worth the trouble imo.

I paid that for my 83 and it had a few minor issues.

And yes the lift for a SA is usually cheaper than for an Ifs rig.

I would get it. If you choose not to, post it up for sale here there are lots of people in cali i know of that might throw down on a truck like that, i would if i had 1200.

jmo, good luck and

If you drive it back, take the time and change all the fluids before driving it. give it a tune up. It will be well worth it.

Nothing really chronic. My son has an 85 Xcab. Is this one fuel injected? Prob not, being an 84. I would not want to drive cross country on a truck that has been stored for 12 years. Who have you checked with for shipping it. There must be a lot of diff companies and prices.

I had my 98 4runner shipped from Portland, OR to Boston, MA last July. I flew back to Boston and went quite a few days without my beloved vehicle, so you can imagine how anxious I was to take delivery. Well I was out at pub that night at about 11pm, and I got a call from the drivers. I could either take a cab home and take receipt of the vehicle now, or wait, potential 2 more days. So I took receipt of the 4runner at about midnight in the dark. Big mistake. They had scratched the hell out of the roof on the truck. Even with a high powered flashlight that I took the time to get from the house, I didn't think to look on the roof. 1 year later, they are still denying liability as I signed the sheet saying it was OK. I washed it that very next morning and found the damage and FLIPPED OUT! Bottom line, be very careful with your inspection.

Definately worth the time/money, I'm jealous only 100k, garaged, nice. Do some more footwork and asking around, bet you could get it across country cheaper. Good luck and welcome to the addiction that is toyota.

Not to sound like a broken record, but do a thorough walkaround and take digital camera pictures before and after (including the roof!). I was stuck with $1500 worth of damage because I signed off and didn't notice until I woke up in the morning. Anyway, good luck and enjoy the new toy!

Get a fuel pump, belts, battery, and alternator and start driving!!!!!!! These are the things that will give out first on a truck that has set for a long time.
Beside look at the adventure you will have. Hell write about it and submit it to one of the 4x4 mags. good luck
oh yes change the fuel filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened with shipping? I've used dependable auto shippers to ship from 4Runner from Reno to Minneapolis. Cost <$900 insured and was delivered ahead of schedule. The quote you received was a good deal.
