22re timing chain metal guides?

Hello everybody. my name is Scott and im new here and hope somebody can give me some insight.
I am in the process of a timing chain install on my 85 4runner. I bought a kit with metal guides and after installing the passenger side guide my chain is really tight. Its so tight that the tensioner is bottoming out.

If i lay the new guide over the old plastic one and line up the bolt holes the new guide is thicker due to the rubber coating that is bonded over the metal. Its the correct length chain and even with the old chain it is just as tight.

It seems the guide would be the correct size and would fit perfect if the rubber coating were removed. I have read where guys have checked there chain a few thousand miles after installing metal guides and found that the coating was almost completely worn away.
It looks like this would happen to mine pretty quickly also as the chain rides hard against this passenger guide.

I was thinking i could burn this coating off now and prevent it from ending up in the pan/oil pickup/filter in a thousand miles?

I see no reason to leave it if its just gonna wear off anyway. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks
