I searched but cannot find any posts that say what the oil capacity of the 22RE is. I ask because AutoZone says it's 4 4/5 quarts, but after dumping in 4 quarts, my dipstick says it's full. Now I realize that not all of the old oil is going to run out, but I've never experienced almost a whole quart staying in the pan, and I've changed oil on quite a few different cars.

What complicates the situation is that I know that this truck had an engine swap before I bought it, and it could have the wrong dipstick installed.

About 4.5 quarts including what's in the filter.

4.9 qts. Probably a dry reading w/ filter. I usually do 4.5 then add the last 1/2 qt. when the level drops about halfway.

Thanks for the quick replies.

So if my dipstick shows full with only 4 quarts and the engine hot, is there a chance it's the wrong one?
