I have a 85 pu carb longbed 2wd with the motor and tranny bad. I'll start with engine. 7 yrs ago I bought a new short block for $350. Installed it and all was good. Well I loan the truck to family memeber. It's ran hot and blew head gasket. New head was put in it. But after start-up it had a knock in it. Was told it was wrist pin slapping. So drove truck for couple yrs and then the tranny decided to go out. It's a 5 sp and from what I can tell. It's stuck in 5th gear. I'm looking to bring this poor little truck back from the dead. Would it be cheaper and easier if I tried to find another short block for like $450 or just have the motor rebuilded. If I got the rebuild route. Where a good place to buy a master rebuild kit? I saw some on Ebay for like $250. Next part the tranny, Any advice on how to handle that issue? Take the tranny out and send it to a tranny shop for repair? if so, what's a fair price for repart. Or should I go look for a used one at a junk yard?
