Try putting the truck in gear, you should be able to break it loose then.

Put it in 5th, and still no luck. I dont have an E brake.
I may just give up on these LC pulleys for now and take it to a shop so that they can do the bitch work.

If I use a bigger cheater bar the truck will still want to creep forward when it is in 5th. I may just give in and take it to a shop.

Mine came off in 5th gear, 4hi, blocks in front of the tires with small breaker bar. And when it broke loose my knuckles went right into the frame and I probably should have got stitches...

I had the same problem a week ago! Borrowed 2 air compressors and an impact wrench. Broke 5 brand new craftsman sockets. What I did was buy a 6point IMPACT socket, 1/2 inch, and a piece of 3 foot conduit. Put 19 mm 1/2 in. socket and pull handle or wratchet on with engine at TDC/comp. Lay it to the right, or drivers side, then slide the conduit over the handle and lay it on the ground. Turn the crankshaft by hand until the pressure of the wrench stops it. Only an inch or two if that. Put in NEUTRAL, Then BUMP the starter until it breaks loose. If you don't have the heads off these engines, Then TDC is not important at this point. You can always put the bolt back on and turn the crank to find TDC. This was after 3 days of driving myself and everyone I new crazy. I feel your pain!
Hope this helps aalan |

I had the same issue. I used my starter and it worked great. Maybe keep spraying it with PB blaster for a couple of days or you can always try heat. Ive never tried heat on the crank bolt and it might be a bad idea? If the engine is out, you might try taking it down to a tire shop and use their impact wrench. I did that for an axle nut on an old vw, their impact wrench worked when nothing I had did.

if its in 5th gear..it wont keep creeping forward if you BLOCK IT IN THE FRONT..........
i always use the starter trick to take mine off... get big cheater..slide it over the ratchet..have a friend hold it up against the frame rail on the driver side..BUMP the starter..and it WILL break loose......

I did mine with a 1/2 snap on torque wrench in the off position laid it on the frame and hit the key worked the first time.
As for the one out of the truck your going to want to shock it not try to break it like normal.

If the head is off and bumping the starter is not an option, you can purchase an adjustable, rubber-strap wrench (sort of like an oil filter wrench, only a/b $10). It worked great for me. I just wrapped the wrench around the crank pulley, tightened up, then put pressure on it in the opposite direction as I loosened the nut. I had to use some muscle but it worked great. Plus, it would've been easier if I had a helper to hold the wrench around the crank pulley.
