20R Expend Gas As A 6 Cylinders, Please Help!

I got a 4Runner 1987, it had a 22R-E before, so it broke and I bought a 20R carbureted engine. After setting up the engine I tryed two kinds of carburetors the OEM and the Weber 32/36, but it expend too much gas in both ways, more than the 22R-E, and it's have less HPs. I tryed few things for fix that, but still the same. Also I installed a gas regulator and a return hose to the tank. Is someone know how to resolve this issue, please help me how figure it out. My truck right now is not good in gas millage.

Thanks in advance, Starlux

are you still using the original EFI pump in the tank?

Yes, with a gas regulator and a return line to the tank.

that could be part of the problem, even with a regulator you may be over fueling the carb causing bad gas mileage, do you have a pressure gauge after the regulator?

No, I may have to get one. Right now the regulator is set on 4.5, but I'll be writting back when I get a gauge.

Thanks, Starlux

I tried to use a low pressure regulator with a fuel injection pump and it blew the regulator. I'll bet you're getting way too much pressure to the carb

you need a type i mechanical fuel pump for the carb. it mounts on the front passenger side of the head just ahead of the thermostat.
