and thats a great idea y0da. I was planning on taking a picture of every screw next to what i remove it from, then labeling it, but taping it near the hole it came out of is an even better idea.

this is crazy. They certainly didnt make it easy access to get to this core did they. Whos great idea was it to put it there lol

Your Welcome. It is a big job. I just added a little more info to the previous post for the next person that might be doing a core swap.

It's a cake walk compared to some cores I've changed. My mom's 2000 Chevy pickup was a two day job with me and my dad doing it. Mind you he's been a mechanic for 30 years.. so there are worse cores out there.

Well..... it may not be the worst, but it certainly wont be the easiest! ive got a 66 mustang and the heater box/core is literally at the passengers feet. two screws to take off the glove box and the whole thing is staring you in the face. took me literally 30 minutes when i was 16 year old and i barely knew what i was doing. I still dont know what im doing and im twice that age Haha!!

I shall make a valiant effort!

CT currently. the land of junk yards that dont have 84-88 pickups or 4runners lol. Originally from WA though, the land ripe with them driving on the streets!

Well i measured the distance of the in/out pipes coming from the firewall and contacted US auto parts, theyre core+pipes combo matches up and the guy says it is an identical reproduction drop in product...... I am tempting the fates and ordered one. Worst case scenario the pipes arent contoured correctly and im out a few bucks to ship it back. Least i will never be left wondering "what if" in the future!

I shall keep everybody updated!

I do have a poll for everybody though:

For those of you who have replaced heater cores.... which brand of core did you go with? Were you happy with it? Did you go with a different brand? Is there a brand you would definitely avoid??

In case this doesnt fit and i have to order up a single core unit id love some feedback before hand!
