I am putting my interior back after taking the truck off the road in september 2012 and disassembling everything. I remember when the truck was running I had problems with my tach, it would stick at 1500 rpms or so and sometimes would very very slowly move to 1800 rpms or go down to 1200rpms. It would never follow the engine rpms or go down to zero.

Has anyone ever had that problem? Is there a way I can test the tach individually? If not what type of wire, connection or ground should I check in the harness or next to the coil?

Here is a picture with the cluster off the truck. I can move the needle to any position with my finger and it will stay there, don't know if that's normal.

P.S. I don't know anyone with the same truck to test the tach.

I have the same tach but my issue is it works every now and then.
I'm pretty sure its an issue with the tach but finding a replacement isn't easy.
I've been looking for a working one for a while.
