OK so anther question can I do rears up front but use my stock front main leaf so I don't have to buy banana shackles and keep the overall length the same for steering or does that defeat the whole purpose?

It's more complex than just putting a set of rear leaves up front. You definitely need an aftermarket shackle, around 5" eye to eye, you need to relocate the shock hoops, a drop front hanger helps a lot, and if you build this pack to only yield 1" of lift it will be extremely under-sprung and ride very soft, often reverse arching the springs. You might want to consider some $160 OME springs, because by the time it's all said and done you will have spent over that on your RUF swap, I promise. Also, different rears offer different amounts of lift, as Roger mentioned in his very well written article posted above.

see this is what I am looking for!
I was also wondering about getting a rear set and just adding them to my stock front main leaf because the rears have more arch then the fronts here are my springs

You could just get some random leaf packs that are 2 1/2" wide and start adding to your stock pack, sure. It'll probably help with the lift, but I'm sure it'll ride pretty stiff. I see you already have some pretty long shackles, so those would probably work better with a more arched leaf pack. Just start experimenting, it's way more fun than surfing the forums all day to see what other people have done.
Here's my rears up front... ![]() ![]() ![]() 40s with lots of trimming, probably 5-6" lft. Last edited by oldgold3vze; 11-28-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

Spring pack from top to bottom: -1980 rear -1980 rear -trimmed down 89 pick up rear -1980 rear with clamp -trimmed down 89 -trimmed down 89 The 1980 rear leaves have way more un weighted arch than the 84-89. My first rears up front pack used the main leaves from an 88 4runner, and I got about 2" less lift, but it was only a 5 leaf pack. Rears are chevys with a 6" shackle and an (ahem) 1" block. The bed of the truck sits 100% perfectly level, that's part of the reason I used the block, plus my u-bolts had about 1" of exposed threads, and I'm trying to make sure those 40s don't rub. ok so I guess what I have decided is just get a set of 3" pro comp leafs and mix them with my stock leafs to get a softer and lower ride for cheap
