Paint opinions and other questions.

I got my 80 pickup last night. thing is awesome, but it has surface rust and some holes. so while im doing the body work, i wanted to paint it a new color. Ive narrowed it down to black rocker/fenderflares, but im wondering what other color to paint the thing. So should i go w/ brown, green or tan? or another easy color?

Also, on my fuel filter, there was no hose for the left line. and where in the hell are the windshield sprayers?
TIA

Always thought PRIMER grey was pretty cool. But that's just me. sure would be easy to touch up though. What are the spec's on your new truck.

Its an 80 w/ the 20r 4spd, 77146 miles maybe 177xxx or 277xxx LOL, its got a 1 or 2in lift, 33 procomp muds, w/ chrome mod steelies, lincoln locker rear and rust holes in the door. I was thinking that would look good, w/ the black rocker/fenderflares, but i may just go w/ olive drab, the primer im using is black, so im gonna see how it looks like that, and the the olive drab. later it may convert to camo.

black rockers/flares with the rest of it white, gray or another constrasting color would look pretty cool IMHO. i've always been a fan of bright colors on the early trucks, also.

That's the exact same colour combination that I'm going with on my build. I've been painting with Krylon Camoflage olive and been putting Black Rubberized undercoating on the flares and rockers... mostly because they cover up the Bondo and Fibreglass really well Not only that but it's gonna be a off road truck and I'm not gonna spend the time making it pretty (and $$$) just to smash it up.

Just a little side note too. Your truck more than likely doesn't have a lift. The ol 1st Gens all look like they are jacked up a little bit, it's just the cool assed aggressive look that Toyota had back in the day.

nahh ill take pics of it, its pretty tall, and the shackles look diff from stock, either way i love its height, i cant wait for the 35s, And these 4.37 gears haul the 33s better than my 22re, with 31s, and 4.10s

how is the olive drab holding up? same paint im gonna use. Im not too worried about the body like you said, im not gonna fix the big dents, however this is my project and im gonna teach myself all of the work to do on it myself, body work included. I just did the rockers with rustoleum and it looks tons better, but i shouldn't have, because i need to fix a few things on the rockers. I also started to rustoleum my frame, and undercarriage, when i get it registered im gonna take it to the car wash and clean the underside real goooooood. I just dont wanna get my driveway covered in grease/mud/grime

your truck looks very similar to mine. I just got mine painted this week. Decided to go with tan.

here's some pics:

My next battle is to restore the interrior. I have no clue where to start or look. Mine is a 80 toyota 4 speed as well. But with under 85,000 miles on it.

Hope the pics help with your decision

RcBro, that doesn't look like tan to me, unless the camera is seriously whacked, then I'd say that the pale yellow my 4 runner originally was.
Whoo-hoo, another person asking about green\black combo! I get to whore another pic of my 4runner (whoops, not a pickup, sorry).
As I mentioned in the other thread, I did intend on starting with Olive Drab but was too scared of the VOC's since I'd be painting in my exhaust-less garage. Here's a pic of my truck with the brighter-than-olive-drab green black combo.

The paint I used is described on this page

nice, right now the truck is black, so im either gonna leave it or add some drab to it later. i fixed all of the rust on the body, there was none on the frame, but i need to do some floorboard work. luckily my interior is in good shape.

Both of you have very nice trucks too.
