its a 82 4x4 rear pack with the 4th leaf from a 3" rancho pack... I have seen a truck with just plain stock rears so I figured adding the 3" rancho 4th leaf should put me about where I want it to be and then I can add or subtract as needed... and I do have another pack to add in if needed ...this is goning be a trial and error thing since I am new to it so I will learn as I go

You can weld the spiders on a v-6...be prepared for worn tires. I would not recommend welding your front diff if you daily drive this thing during the winter and mind need 4wd on the street. Pulls where you don't want it to go...

ok so I have been looking around at pics of 1st gens and am really starting to like the idea of a flat bed... so I am thinking about building a flat bed and turning my bed into a trailer or maybe just selling it and building a simple flat deck for my truck ... what do you guys think?

Do it!!! One day I hope for a flat bed. Mounting spots for everything, jack, tool box, spare tires, light mounting galore. I say do the flatbed.

ok so lately besides the flat bed I have also been looking into a rear locker... I do drive this truck on the street but not everyday I take it up the mountain every now and then and like to crawl alot... looking into a lockrite locker for cheap and simple install but if I am gonna go out on a locker I would just spool the rear (rather not)... I have V6 4.56 3rds... then later I would like to install an ARB locker locker in the front... any input would be appreciated...

That would be the approach I would take...I plan on doing the same although it's not in the near future. I'm hoping that Aussie will have a locker for me by the time I go to do this I have 4.88's if not I'll be running a Lockrite and then later on have a selectable in the front either an ARB or an E-locker.

cool glad Im not the only one... I want the ARB cuz I already have the ARB compressor and air line so that was an easy choice... to many ppl keep trying to convince me to just weld it front and rear but I like to drive the the trail I dont really have a trailer and tow rig

9 is NICE. Love how they used the fender flares, those would match a first gen perfectly. I wouldn't go with a flat bed without some kind of rail, so the completely flat ones would be out for me. I think a combination of a couple of them would be best. I love the overhead rack idea like 8, but put some low side rails on it.

I would not weld it...if you weld the rear then your on street performance is shot and you'll chew up tires real quick like. Even with a lunchbox locker tires will go a bit quicker. If you weld the front you will not be able to turn very well at all even on the trails. Turning on the street just wont happen. You probable run with 1 hub locked while you were on the trails and if you going to do that why bother welding it??? I have seen the difference a rear locker will make and that is my next purchase (hopefully spring time).

Good choice, I think if you morph 8 & 9 and use the wood like 4 to keep it lite. That would be the way to go.
