the regulator seems to be working just fine with key on key off test.
autozone load tested my charging system, there telling my my reg is bad.
but my alt still makes no voltage.
i was understanding the reg brings the voltage of the alt down to a controlled 13-14 volts.
i have a old nissan alt that i use on my home made gen/welder.
the nissan alt has to be excited to start, once started it puts out 70 volts dc at about 1k rpm.it doesnt have a built in reg.

so i ordered a new reg,got a new alternator.
if i install the new alt, would a dammaged reg ruin my alt?
or should i wait till the reg comes in?
The service manual reccomends to change out the reg and alt at the same time.

its clearly not on the stick, ive check that the stick was going in all the way....ect.,i found 1 potienial leak.looks like i never tightened the upper alternator bracket bolt.
this bolt allows the bracket to piviot, which helps during alt install.
tomorrow ill service the oil/filter again, wash the engine and see if that was my issue.
but i have no oil in my driveway....unless it only leaked while driving.

also have planned to adjust the valves, maybe free up that choke, install voltage regulator and hope that solves my issues.

today i crawled under the truck for inspection, greese everything.
i found slop in my front case side u joint, and slop in the rear.
basically up and down movement....maybe 0.20 ths at most....enough for concern.

ill try to do fluid change in my case, tranny, diffs next week.

you may would to do a one wire GM alternator swap.

also I would put in a disconnect switch, so the battery in connected to the truck when not in use

New alternator and reg, still no volts.
I got hot supplied to alt and regulator.
Guess its wire time.

im getting really aggrevated,quickly.
is there a know fuseable ling in the charging circuit?

my alt is putting out 0.75 volts, the white hot is sending 12 to the alt,the harness for the reh is 5 wires,4 wires show 12 volts going into the reg.....still no charge.
wtf?

I don't see a fusible link in the circuit, other than the one coming from the battery (white wire) to terminal B on the alternator. Sounds like a continuity tests is needed from the battery thru the alternator to the regulator, checking for corroded connections at each terminal. JMHO

Start by placing a amp meter between the positive post on the battery and the cable. See if any current is flowing do it with the truck on. If you are drawing a lot of current then start removing one fuse at a time until no current is flowing. Shorts in the electrical system are very hard to nail down. Just keep disconnecting until the alternator puts out voltage. I wish I could be more help, but this is something of a pain.
