Seen some great trucks on this thread. Awesome to see the 1st gens OEM restored.
Mine is a 1981 SR5 longbed (bobed now). Specs are in my sig. I love this truck to death, wouldn't trade it for any thing, it talks to me and tells me happy things. This was my first vehicle and still a daily driver/hardcore wheeler.

Had an interesting paint scheme for a while, lots of funny looks.

One of our crazier moments toether.

A recent heart transplant.

Doing what it does best.

I love seeing a "stock looking" 1st gen. that is still a capable wheeler. Just goes to show what level Toyota was at when they built it. I sure wish they still had the simplicty of the 1st gens.

I can't agree more with that last post. Toyota built some great trucks back then. My 82 is a perfect example. 25 years old and run better than my mom's brand new Malibu. It ticks along just like a 22R should and can't beat the capability of the beast. Its too bad Toyota doesn't make the small trucks that they got their reputation for anymore.

Here are some pictures of the '81 Trekker I bought a couple of weeks ago. 22R, 5 SPD. Like a lot of projects it is gonna take some time.

It is like an early 4Runner that Winnebago converted, should have enough room to crash in the back on wet runs...

Plans are for an internal cage, 5.29's 35's, sliders, bumpers, wider rear axles etc.. Dual cases someday.
Nice thing is it is light enough for my '05 Taco to tow.
Just wish my wife's budget was as big as mine

Ocdropzone. Those are seats from a 91 Integra so yes Civic seats. They fit pretty good but I had to cut and fold the tabs flat on the front and I drilled a few holes but it was nothing major. They are the same dimensions as the original buckets. I think I'm about done with everything I've done to that beast and its time to start building a 91 xtra cab and put a 4cyl turbo diesel in it, solid axle, and take the bumpers and box and all off my 82 and put it on the 91 and build a new flat bed for the 82 and make it into a welding and work truck. I'd keep putting money into the 82 but the rust is starting to come through again and its going to be hard to stop it this time around.

Heres my 83 SR5, its a work in progress, I bought it completly apart and have been piecing it together, rebuilt the frame with the rear half of an 86. Its actually more together now than in the picture. Im kind of on a tight budget and wanna keep it simple and not spend tons on stuff. Right now its on stock rears with 4" blocks, 3.5" Tough country front springs(crap).. stock steering overall its a lame setup and needs changing before I get it on the road.

Plans are:

63" Chevy rear springs, 3" blocks, home made shackles, trac bar
Custom pack up front, rears + tough country's mixed
Drop front hanger and home made shackles.
Hi-steer of somesort when I can afford, for now Drop drag link.
Home made shock mounts front + rear
Home made U-bolt flip
Home made t-case cross member
33"-35" tires
Home made Tube deck/cage

This is my 83 SR5 work in progress, I bought it completly dissassembled. The frame was junk and is still... junk but atleast it isnt rotten.. well, so rotten that I can poke through it. Now its got the rear half of an 86 frame welded to the original (huge gussets and its square) The truck right now has 3.5" Tough Country lift springs upfront with stock shackles and spring hanger, in the rear its got 4" blocks and stock springs + shackles... lame setup but I gotta live with it before I get into chevy rears and rears upfront etc...

Right now im into some wiring issues that I should be able to fix today, picking up a new throttle cable, dropping in the gas tank and hopefully firing it up!

I have tons of pictures and might start a build up thread.

Right now its more complete but thats the newest picture I have.

I'm wondering what all the differences are between Early 1st gens and later ones are. I know for one that the earlies had circle headlights as opposed to square headlights. But what other differences are there besides different variations of the 20r, 21r, 22r whatever?

79,80, and mid 81's had 20Rs late 81's-83's had 22Rs, trannys were changed through out the years (4spds and 5spds), grille changes with the 79-early 81's with the round h/l's and late 81-83 being squares, and thats really about it
