Unhappy engine popping?

when i changed my cam i started to hear the engine crackling and popping when i would coast. i thought it was the timing chain so i put a new on on. it is still doing it. it didn't bug me much so i went on, but then i put a traction bar on the rear axle and cut the exhaust off (behind the cab). of course i hear it more now but here lately it started to pop and crackle when i shift also. what is making it do that, i want to get it fixed.

Sure it's the engine? I guess it could be backfiring, or it could be a u-joint or pinion bearing..

I agree w/ 83. I would make sure it's not a backfire/ exaust rattle or someother sound first.

Check your timing and make sure you're not a tooth off or something like that...

The popping and crackling I am talking about is kind of like a backfire. It's like when a truck uses a Jake brake but not as bad. I will take a look at the timing chain to make sure it's right
