chevy alternator ????? stock volt reg

Do I need to disconect the stock voltage regulator if I'm running a chevy alternator. the alternator has a built in one but if i leave it plug in will it hurt anything. rather be safe then sorry.

do the stock voltage regulator protect the ignition module?

My voltage regulator is disconnected, and everything seems fine w/ the GM One-Wire Alt.
