82 4x4 front wheels not engaging

i have a hacked up 82 trail rig, manual locking hubs, which are locked, but front wheel is not engaging. buddy said it's probably the splines on the front drive shaft (slip yoke). i don't know much about these

welcome to YT. you can test your front driveshaft but twisting both ends...it would be pretty obvious if your DS was fubar.

Which front wheel is not engaging?

I am thinking your buddy meant to say that the splines in the hub are not engaging. Could be a busted hub ring.

he was thinking the splines were wore out in the front drive shaft, but the shaft was spinning when the wheels were rolling. i went to put it up on my trailer. with my other rig, i put the front wheels on the trailer, and use 4 wheel to walk up on. this one, the rear tires were spinning in the grass, and the fronts weren't moving
