79 Toyota pickup- lift spring ideas.

Hello,
I just bought a 79 pickup, 4x4. it's stock right now, but the guy i got it off had 6" lift springs in the Bed. This is more lift than i want. Are there any issues With taking a leaf out of the pack to soften and slightly lower the springs?

Play around with the spring packs all you want. Be aware, however, that the amount of arch in the springs is the primary reason that there's so much lift. Taking out leaves will soften the springs, but won't drop the lift too much.

But if it softens it, wont it reduce how high it is when the weight is on it?

i took a leaf out of tg 3 inch lift springs once and they flattened out nice and did not wrap bad but got longer. this made a small issue with the shackle not being vertical. my friend tried that with 6 inch lifted springs with poor results, developed a bad wrap.

i would add in a leaf from a lower riding spring (maybe stock pack if possible) last time i pulled a leaf from a stack it got some nasty wrap and snapped right at the perch.

you actually don't want a vertical shackle or your spring will have very little droop.

back to the original question... there is nothing wrong with mix and matching spring packs.

my shackles was almost laying flat...bottomed out if i hit a bump. missing links fixed me right up!!!

yep, 6 inches of lift is quite a bit. you may have steering issues, driveline issues, shock issues, ect. its all connected. i'm no toy expert by any means but, changing 1 thing often times affects other things.

one more thing if ur looking to wheel that toy, flat springs work the best for articulation. big lifts are mostly for show, look at most crawler buggies, they are low with skids. center of gravity and what not.

That's why i want to flatten them out some. I think 2-2.5" of lift would be good for tire/ground clearance, articulation and COG all together. maybe i'll try and trade someone for a shorter lift. I definately would like a little more tire room.
Yes, i hear you on steering, drivelines, shocks and brakes.
Steering- already planning on upgrading
Drivelines- hoping to do some square drivelines. Not going to be a DD, but most likely will drive to the trail.
Shocks- upgrades planned.
Brakes- i've lengthened brake lines before, i can do it again.
