2rz swap in 83 toy tech help!!

I have an 04 taco but this thread is for my older toy. I recently transplanted a 1996 2rz 5spd into my 83 4x4 that had the 22r. My main reason for switching was a hope for more power better fuel economy and the fuel injection perks.
I've been driving my truck for a few months now but it's not running anywhere near what I had hoped or imagined which is probably my fault since this is my first engine swap ever. I did all the interface wiring myself just from researching for weeks online and compiling a fsm for my 83 and using ncttora's resources.
TRUCK SPECS:
1983 toyota SR5 original 5sp 22r
Now has 1996 2rz-fe distributor ignition
w56 5spd
currently running 35's and dual cases with w56 and 4.10 gears.

The problems that I am having are with my timing advance I believe. I checked the timing with the TE1 and E1 pins jumped and got what looks like 4 degrees BTDC. when I hit the throttle the timing doesn't change from what I can see. When i drive my truck I can accelerate fairly normally when I barely have my foot into the gas pedal but if I mash on it it just feels like something is holding my truck back.
Can anyone help me or have any ideas?
