Good use of the Zinc Chromate primer, Use alot of it for marine application and it sure works good. The frame im working on right now might get a base coat of it.

Did you use shackle bushings for the t-case/trans crossmember? or are they something different? Does it hang lower than stock? I want to build the same sort of thing but have the drop part narrower and run my exhaust underneath it.

like this: ---__---

I like the idea of acid dipping small parts, what kind of acid? where do you get it? One other goofy idea I have is to coat the inside of my new frame with Fluid film, not sure how long it would last but it works really good for preventing rust, keeps the spare chucks for our lathes rust free and the table on the milling machine rust free.

haha that was sort of jiberish.....sorry! what i meant to observe is that the BED of the trekker is different than the bed of a first gen pickup, even without the topper of course. are both parts of the box fiberglass?

it is a fiberglass replica just no tie downs along a bed rail and the inside has been lowered to make some leg room for rear passengers....That is the difference between a Trekker and a TrailBlazer, Griffin used the steel bed un modified but had to go with a rear raised top for headroom..

Thanks Bro .. I absolutly LOVE the ZINC .. works for me ....
Acid I use is .. hydroFluoric .. and can be purchaced at any "auto detailers" outlet .. works great .

Crossmember was not built for clearance , but for alininging the engine and keeping it level .. so , I dont really know if there is any difference in height . and YES .. shackle bushings were used for a mounting bushing ..

yes .. as Robb (ocdropzone) said .. but there is also NO top "lip" ... more like the USA style 84-88 bed ..
but yes .. all fiberglass... 20 YEAR OLD fiberglass!!! it's even old style glass , and layup proceedures ..

Got to thinking when I was pulling some junk out of the back of the Trekker today (it has become a storage room, tight space in the garage) and was looking at your Pictures...
Thinking that 3-4" high lip in the back is a pain in the butt to get stuff out of the back sometimes..
Wondering if when you go to make your molds for the Trekker kit or maybe even when you are working on your personal one if you would try to eliminate that rear Lip (I know it is there for strength) And extend the tailgate a corresponding amount...just a thought..

it's the proceedure of laying the fiberglass cloth out , and "wetting" it with resin ..

ascually I kind of said that wrong .. as it's really not the lay up that has changes so much , but the meterials used .. resins , and mats and cloths have substantially improoved over the years ..

yep .. I have looked at this ..
and my plan is -- just between you amd me --

because I want to have the roof removable (like the 84-89 4Runners) .. I actually want to build a " tailgate" to fit a NEW opening (cut to the floor) . so basically the rear hatch will be a split hatch , with a solid window in a fiber shell on hatch shocks so it will lift , and the tail gate on hinges , so it will lower .. for reference , like the BJ landcruisers .
(hope that makes sence )

not much to add ... but every little bit is a step forward ..

has a moment ... so I was able to "knock" off the original sound deadner in the cab .. If I can find a flat bed trailer , I can send it off to sand blast ..
