Long time lurker chiming in, hopefully this helps if you still haven't gotten your truck running-
I recently experienced pretty much this exact same issue, and I went through a similar process in diagnosing it. What it came down to was two things- the connector for the idle solenoid had a wire pulled out of it and the fuse labeled engine in the fuse block was blown. I pulled an identical connector out of a tercel, swapped the wires around, installed it then replaced the fuse and it fired right up. After a little more tuning, it purs at 700 rpm beautifully. Hope this helps.

I used to have a problem with my 1980 where it would intermittently run badly. I ran a switch into the cab of the truck that would cut the idle solenoid. Doing so would fix the problem. It later turned out that the accelerator pump was leaking (usually after application of near full throttle). Cutting the idle solenoid leaned out the carb just enough to let the truck keep running. Adding the switch kept the truck driveable until I ultimately rebuilt the carb. After rebuilding I kept the idle switch installed and on long trips I would cut the idle circuit resulting in me picking up 2 or 3 points in the MPG department.

had this same type of issue with the stock carb after 2 rebuilds. its crap. drop the money on a 32/36 weber, well worth the money. my truck pulls harder, gets better mileage and is way easier to adjust. i went with the manual choke to rule out any issues in that department. (i de-smogged at the same time too so im sure that helped as well.)

Was the carb soaked in cleaner or was it a can of carb cleaner and a tooth brush clean up ? prep is a big part of a rebuild also checking for worn parts and warped mating surfaces . I just noticed the part I was answering was a year old.

When I bought my 82 22r I drove it away from the place and it stalled out all the way home. I ran the ground wire on the fuel cutoff solinoid on the carb directly to the ground on the battery. Problem solved and I haven't had an issue since.

Similar problem. 83 22r camper won't idle. Sight glass was always full. I installed rebuilt Aisan carb today,
sight glass is still full! Mechanical fuel pump with spacer 4-5 PSI. All searches
say to check the sight glass level, but no one addresses full sight glass. I doubt
float level is off because of new rebuild.
