1980 L52 Shifter hollow rivet removal question
I've got a 1980 Toyota 2WD pickup, 5-speed transmission I'm attempting to change the bearings and stuff out on after I started to experience the famous 1/2/3rd +5th gear whines while 4th gear runs nicely. Anyway, after managing to get the dang thing off the pickup and inside the house for cleanup and rebuild, I got this thing on the bottom of the shift assembly:
It's a hollow cylindrical split-rivet thingy. I don't know what the proper nomenclature is. This rivet is preventing me from basically opening the transmission. I've tried punching it out to no avail. Do I have to drill it out? If I have to go that route, how do I replace it?
Also I'm not entirely sure that this is an L52 transmission because it doesn't cosmetically match up with every other L52 transmission I've seen online. All I know is it's the stock transmission that came with my 1980 2WD Toyota pickup (20r) and it's a 5-speed.
Thanks!
