Broke my IFS!!

Basically I just broke my cv axel. Pulled it straight out of the diff housing. I guess the reason is I'm running 35x14.50 BOGGERS open front and rear haha. The thing is I had to drive it home and around a little bit so just more and more parts kept falling out on the road so basically I need a whole new front end. Now its making a really bad grinding noise which I have no idea what its coming from. Any idea on how much this is gonna cost???

get one of the many used ifs front setup (diff/axels/etc..) off craigslist.com or pirate or here or your local ttora.com

you can pick one up cheap, you should post some pics

thats actually not a bad idea.. the 83 needs a new motor anyways...How much trouble is it to put the solid axel under the 90?

well you would have to find someone who has done this stuff before.. its not hard presay but you def need to be a good welder with knowledge of suspension systems..but having the donor truck would make it easier.. you could see where the spring hangers are and whatnot..
might be better to get the part for your ifs form the junkyard if your more comfortable changing them out.

I did the same thing to my 89 IFS (passenger side) but I drove it like that for two years. Never heard any grinding. The engine just crapped out on me recently.

if you can get the holes cleaned up i would just put a lifetime warrenty cv in it... the grinding could be brakes or wheel bearing or the other cv..

nice tires on a ifs.. with a locked rear it would be unstopable...my stock w/ welded rear and 32s is.

I just welded the 83 in the rear & i was gonna do the 90 but I think i just want to spend the extra penny and get an aussie locker or a lock right.

Hey Ryan, not trying to thread jack, but is that just a 4" lift with cranked torsionbars? Does it rub at all?

Like stated, its up to you, if you have the tools/time/money, you could take the Straight Axle off the other truck and put it on yours. NOt sure how much it would cost if you have a donor truck though.

Yeah its just a 4" susp. It doesn't rub the fenders at all but I did have to grind the control arm just a little bit because the alignments out so bad. I just don't want to jump into doing the SAS and then have to spend more money than expected. I just want to know what im getting into

Look at the cv angle!

Is the truck sitting now as it is in the picture? Looks like the part of the cv on the side closest to the wheel is still attached. Grinding noise?

Yea, sas would be nice, but i don't feel like taking on that project till i start breaking stuff on mine.

Do you have manual hubs? Maybe its time to pull the front third and make sure nothing is floating around in there
