feeler: '85 4runner 22re
man, i just got this thing but i'm not sure i have the time to devote to making it what i want so... i'm thinking of selling.
it's a 1985 4runner with 22re 5-speed, 4WD, SFA. pics are in my signature line as "'85 4runner resto-mod". those pics are when i first got it. i have put two OEM front fenders on it, i am currently putting on a rust free tail gate, and i'll probably have new doors for it next week. the gate and doors are from a blue 4runner, the fenders are gray. it does have some rust issues of course from being in iowa for 23 years. it starts up and runs great! the center console was busted as well as the shifter surround so i junked that stuff. the rear bumper has been taken off as well as the nerf bars. has no stereo, but does have a factory inclinometer/altimeter. it's got 209K miles on it but running well. i just put a new battery and new battery cables in it, new wipers, and new air filter. the interior is in pretty good shape, just a little disassembled at this time. i love the seats in this thing, gray interior with the "SR5" on the seat upholstery. i also painted the chrome on the tail lights, corner lights and grille flat black. i don't really know what to say other than this could be a good project for some one else that has the time to devote to it. i bought it for $1400, the new hatch was $250, the fenders were $150, the doors that i'm getting are $300, and the battery and parts i've put in so far were over $100. so that means i have a little over $2200 invested so far. i will accept offers at this time, i know it won't be anywhere near what i have in it, but let's just say i won't take less than $1500. known issues: -has some rust on the quarters, and in the door jambs between the front doors and the fenders. -not sure if the cruise control works, never tried it. -the previous tailgate was not working, i swapped out with a known working tailgate and plugged it in, and it's still not working. the connector looks like it's corroded a bit, i might be able to snag some good wiring this weekend from the bone yard and see if that fixes it. beyond that, i have not clue how to fix it, maybe it's a bad switch, i don't know. -has no rear bumper, planned to replace with something else but now i'm selling. -the clutch pedal needs a slight adjustment, works just fine but i never got under there to adjust the screw to make it catch a little sooner. -there is a little play in the steering, i was told from the previous owner that they took it to a shop and they were told it needed the steering knuckle arm replaced, they gave me a good used part with the sale and it will be included with the truck. -no radio as stated above. -the shifter surround is gone since it was cracked and the boot was rotten. i do still have the center console, it had rear heat which i removed all that junk since it didn't work and the hinge on the console lid is broken. you can have all of it. i planned on getting a generic console later on, it's up to you to put in the old or get something new. the good: -runs just fine -new battery and cables with gold plated connectors (bling!) -new air filter, fresh oil change, PCV valve -seems like a solid vehicle for daily driving or a rock crawling project. -sunroof -SR5 gauge cluster with miles per hour, Tach, volts, oil press., coolant temp, fuel. -dirty, but decent interior. -22RE 4cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission, 4WD, Solid Front Axle -has some aftermarket aluminum wheels with 31X10.5 tires. -OEM front fenders and tailgate 98% rust free, just a little surface rust in some spots, but you'll sand that off when you paint them anyway. -IT'S A 1ST GEN 4RUNNER!!!! pics and info more pics ok, any more questions or if you'd like to take it for a spin you can PM me here on yotatech or email me: pattycakes77 AT hotmail DOT com or if you want more pics it might take me a day or two but i can email them to you. might even be able to take a movie of it running if you like, i think i have that on my digital camera. if you'd like to call me and talk to a real person, email me first and i'll either give you my phone number or i can call you when it's convenient for us both, i just don't want to put my phone number up in cyberspace for all the kooks to see ![]() that's it for now, i'll update as i have more info or remember things.

if i don't get any takers on the whole thing i might decide to part it out, if that happens you're first in line.

just to put this up to the top again...
it's still for sale, i've got some one interested in it but wanted to update a little. i'm still waiting for Toyota to get me a new PCV valve, grommet, and valve cover gasket. the old PCV valve broke half way off and the only way to get it out correctly without having pieces of plastic and rubber from falling into the engine is to take the valve cover off. so, i'm still waiting for my parts to come in. i'm putting all the black (de-chromed) pieces back on the exterior. i'll get detailed pics of everything up as soon as i have it back together. i'll also be adding some video to show how it runs since i doubt there will be any locals to take it for a spin, so you'll get a virtual test drive instead. thanks

ok, picture time round 1! after i put the new PCV valve in tomorrow i'll get some video uploaded of a "virtual test drive" for anyone interested. if you want any other pics of specific things please let me know, any questions you have i'm usually on here once in the evening every day. if you'd like to call and ask me questions or set up a time/place to check the beast out PM me and i'll give you my phone number (just don't want to post it for the masses here in cyberspace). on to the pics!
![]() these are some of the parts that i have either taken off and saved or i kept for spares. there are 3 bushwacker fender flares (previous owner said the 4th flew off on the interstate somewhere), tailgate weatherstrip, tire change kit, chrome windshield surround (missing one piece), ashtray, rear window motor, skid plate and another factory protective plate, original tailgate license lights and plastic overhang thingy, dust shields from the rear bumper, the heat duct from the driver's side, a bag of misc bolts/screws, and the rear washer bag. ![]() another view of the spare parts ![]() passenger side door, the window works but the switch is missing, controls from the driver's side still work. ![]() the passenger side floor pan. it's a little rusty and should be replaced. i don't know if it's the same kind of repair that was made on the driver's side, but it looks like a piece of sheet metal with some spray foam and/or fiberglass to keep it in place. the person that did this "fabulous" work i would suspect is mental or something. ![]() another view of the passenger side floor. this you can see in the corner by the ECU has some of the spray foam "repair". the passenger side was all dry when i got it, as opposed to the driver's side that smelled a little musty from moisture coming in from the rusted areas. ![]() a view of the passenger side, the non cracked and very clean dash and glove box. ![]() the inclinometer, heater controls, clock, and vents. ![]() this is the radio area and part of the shifter area. there is not radio, the brackets are there with a little 1DIN cubbie hole, the wiring is all there as well. i don't think the lighter is hooked up, the ash tray is out with the spare parts, there is no antennae so i don't know if that button works. i took the shifter surround out and threw it away because it was broken in 100 pieces when i got this. the metal shifter surround that bolts to the floor has been cleaned up and treated with POR 15 and the boot cleaned as well, looks nice! doesn't appear to be any rust on the transmission hump, just the floors on the front driver's and passenger's sides. ![]() a view of the passenger side door underneath, some rust coming through. but not bad considering it's 23 years in the midwest! ![]() a picture of a hole in the front part of the rear quarter just in front of the rear wheel. ![]() this is inside the rear passenger wheel well behind the hole shown in the previous picture. ![]() another pic of the passenger side rear wheel well but looking to the rear of the vehicle. ![]() the rear of the vehicle. this is the nearly rust free tailgate i put on recently. when it was removed from the donor vehicle, the window went up and down just fine so that should not be an issue. however, it does not work currently in my 4runner. i have replaced the original hacked up wiring harness with a nicer non-cut harness up to the front driver's dash but that did not fix it. could be a bad ground, relay, ???? also in the pic, you can see that the bent old bumper has been removed along with the side bumper extensions. i also painted the chrome around the tail lights flat black, looks better imo. ![]() this is a picture of the frame and sheet metal under the rear cargo area, and the spare tire. ![]() rear driver's side frame etc. ![]() a picture of the rear axle and stuff. ![]() rear driver's side wheel well looking to the front of the vehicle. ![]() rear driver's side wheel well looking to the back of the vehicle. ![]() rear driver's side undercarriage, rusty but salvageable. ![]() this is the area under the driver's side door. ![]() driver's side frame. ![]() a pic of the drive shaft and undercarriage. ![]() rear driver's side corner. ![]() under the 4runner on the driver's side looking rearward. ![]() driver's side rear wheel area from underneath. ![]() the driver's rear quarter from underneath. ![]() front suspension, solid front axle. ![]() driver's front wheel area. it's a little gunky, i am unfamiliar with whether it's supposed to be like that and if not what the problem is. the passenger side wheel looks the same. ![]() shot of the passenger side wheel area. ![]() this is some of the shoddy repair of rust under the driver's floor board and into the front driver's side wheel well. appears to be some mesh, perhaps some fiberglass, and spray foam. a real professional job from what was supposedly a "restoration 8 or 10 years ago", what a joke! ![]() more of the wonderful repair pictured above, this is the worst of it, the driver's side front. ![]() another pic of the passenger side wheel and "gunk". ![]() a random pic of the driver's side floor from underneath. ![]() the driver's door area ![]() driver's side wheel well. (i do have the fender liners, i just took them off to put the new fenders on and inspect the rust and "repair". ![]() driver's door jamb area. ![]() the front of the driver's door jamb that meets up with the fender, a big hole there, no hiding that one. and a preview of the inside view of the driver's floor! yikes! ![]() YOWZERS! imagine my horror when i flipped up the carpet and saw this! that's right, looks like the previous owner sprayed some foam, then put down the piece of sheet metal, then topped it off with a few layers of tin foil! i've at least cleaned it up as best i can but it will need some new metal for sure. ![]() the driver's side door. ![]() the instrument cluster. with tach, speedo, volts, fuel, temp, and oil press. 209753k miles. ![]() more ugly views of the floor! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() shifter area as mentioned earlier. the center console comes with it still. this used to have the rear heat option but the lines were corroded and nothing worked so i took all the lines out and replaced with non rear heat lines from an '87. ![]() this is the center part where the console would go if it was installed. ![]() passenger side front seat, gotta love that "SR5" fabric! ![]() ![]() the rear seats. ![]() passenger side back windows. ![]() driver's side back windows. ![]() factory sunroof! ![]() inside view of the tail gate. i have the cover for this too, a gray one and a blue one, both included in the sale of course. ![]() tailgate guts. ![]() floor of the cargo area. ![]() floor of the cargo area. ![]() ![]() back of the rear seats. i don't have the seat backs, sorry. ![]() under the rear seats. ![]() close up of the SR5 fabric. all seats are in really good shape. driver's has a little wear to it and there is a tiny tear in the passenger side rear seat on the front part. ![]() the engine bay, minus the PCV valve i've put a new battery, new cables with gold connectors, new air filter, and changed oil so far. hasn't given me any trouble yet, starts right up. previous owner stated that it would stall some times at hard stopping or turns, i haven't had that happen since i've owned it and i figured it might have been the horribly corroded battery cables which i replaced.![]() prrrrrrty. ![]() engine bay shot #1 ![]() engine bay shot #2, note the soon to be replaced broken PCV valve. will get a new OEM PCV valve, grommet, and valve cover gasket in the next 24 hours. ![]() yes i do have the carpet for the front! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() original rear bumper brackets in case you buy a new OEM replacement. ![]() heavy duty rubber mat for the cargo area and the old center console: ![]() ![]() ![]() more pics and video coming soon! PM or email with questions or requests. $1500 for a good project, runs and drives, just needs some TLC.
