Now that I have teenage sons I understand why my father was always saying "put it back when you are done". Drives me crazier looking all over and it is right in front of me but not where it should be....

I like that idea of everything fits in one spot and only that one spot. You see how folks do that with their pegboards with tool outlines, hmmmmm I feel some OCD coming on....

In aviation we do that for safety... every tool has a place in a drawer though most folks I've seen don't go the full on OCD foam cut out route since it takes too long to grab a tool out and some of the chemicals we use eat foam for snack... but after every job all tools go back in the drawer and you inventory each drawer... if everything is there you have'nt left a tool behind where it might cause an "accident"... fyi I understand know why my dad and grandfather always went nuts when I did'nt put the tools back properly when I was finished messing with them when I was a kid....

Come to think of it, I have a set of those trays taking up space somewhere. My brother bought a set, stripped it of the tools he wanted, then gave me the left-overs.

good idea, but i am always adding at both home and work, bringing stuff home from work, and upgrading work stuff that i would have to buy the foam in very large quantities to keep up.

I won't shop at Canadian Tire any more after I saw the GM at the local shop here trying to throw out an old friend of mine. He accused this fellow of stealing when in fact he was returning a product that was not complete in the box.

This fellow was on the beaches of Normandy when the poop hit the fan, (Yes, Canada was there too) watched his friends die, and every day since then has prayed for forgiveness for the stuff HE did so that we can have a Canadian Tire to shop at. I layed into the Canadian Tire Manager until I was being escorted off the store site too.

Since then I've bought Snap-On, and I don't regret it for a moment!

I'm sorry to hear that happened to your friend, there was no call for that, whether or not he was a vet... You should have sent a letter to the local paper and CT head office about the whole issue...
Personally I've never had or seen any such issues at any of the CTs back this way...

Yeah, only reason why i buy some of my tools at ct is because i can return them no matter how many times and they dont say anything much.

I'd love to agree with you on that, but I've had troubles taking tools back there. One time I had a drill bit explode on pine. The guy tried to tell me that I didn't know what I was doing. I argued and he insisted that everyone says they know what they're doing. Finally, to convince him I went to the shelf and pulled a new pack (2 weeks newer) than the drill bits I had just bought. Even in the space of two weeks they had visibly changed the quality of the steel in the bits. He even took the drill bit and looked at it under a microscope, or so he says to prove that I had over heated it.

I've also asked about buying other products, and if you aren't careful, the return policy is plain wrong on so many of their products.

I've had batteries fail before the warranty and got no support, and I've had them send me away with an alignment that was worse than I took the truck in, telling me that the truck frame was bent so they couldn't do the job properly. Only after I told them I climbed under the truck, and unseized 3 of the bolts since the "alignment" did they manage to get it right.

Don't get me wrong, I used Canadian Tire for 20 years before I stopped dealing with them, but in the last few years several of my local shops have gone down-hill and I'm not going to go in there for anything.


Oh... and if you look around a Canadian Tire auto-shop, you'll notice that the toolboxes DON'T say Mastercraft. All snap-on here.

Yeah ive never took my car to ct, never will..
Ive seen my friends get ripped off so much... im not gonna lie thoe, they do have some killer deals.. and its a good place for thoese little things.

Yeah, the only reason my truck was in there at all was because I brought the girl up from the US. You have to use CT to do one of the inspections. I got them to do both, because I could count on them NOT finding half the issues I needed to resolve.

In the end it paid off. It passed the mechanical inspection with near flying colors. Pretty good considering the transmission was beyond toast, and the 3.0 was only running on 4 cylinders.

I then unplugged the injector wires for the missing cylinders and got it through Air-Care Too! Evidence that our bureaucracy is doing a Famn Dine Job.

I would'nt go to a CT auto shop except in an emergency,
but for tools I'm a regular customer and have never had an issue getting a tool or anything else returned, replaced, exchanged... I've even had managers at some stores I deal with tell me to "wait til next week that tool is going on sale", several times....

why would you "have to" use CT for the safety check? must be a BC thing... back here almost any mech. can do that one... the clean air tax grab has to be done at a certified shop [of which many are at CT FWIW lol]
