TREADWRIGHT Tires for 2006 4runner

Hiya.

after 3 days of searching and obsessing about getting new tires for the wife's 2006 4runner SR5, I finally arrived at buying the TREADWRIGHT version of the BFG A/T TA's available at www.TREADWRIGHT.com

a few issues before I placed the order.

#1....I searched and searched and read and read because I wanted (actually my wife wanted) bigger tires for her 4runner. replacing the grandtek at20's (2nd set, 4 1/2 yrs, 92,000 miles) that were in her words looked "fuddy-duddy". Now granted this is our main vehicle for her job, vacations etc, so nothing obnoxious was going to be allowed.

I also became well versed in load ratings......as I almost bought what I thought was going to be my best bet NITTO DURA TRACS.....but they are LOAD "E" rated and the presumed ride comfort would suffer because of the extra sidewall.

the tires I ordered are a size up....measured at 32'' even, they are the 265-70-17's versus the original 265-65-17's. making almost a 1'' diameter difference.

I based my decision on several things like we all do nowadays.....price, reputation and looks.......actually, in this case looks were 1st I'm sorry to say.

TREADWRIGHT kept coming out on top.

couple this with the personal recommendations from members here who actually use TREADWRIGHTs....namely KIYOBROWN and JUNKERS88 along with testimonies that I read during my research, this made my decision easier.

Also...I have to add.....LUMPY and I exchanged emails several times that day too and his encouragement helped seal the deal as well

so on 1-28-11 I called and spoke to Ellie and placed my order.....I have been back and forth with "Blue" from TREADWRIGHT as he was making sure everything was as smooth as possible with the transaction.......and it was.

the tires came to $90.40 each with shipping on the 4 tires being $128 plus a promo code that I got because I am "friends" with them on Facebook (also, JUNKERS88 posted a thread about that code too) saving me $30.02 for a grand total of $459.58.

with an estimate of $50 to mount these for me (that's what I got charged 2 weeks ago to change over a set of tires on my truck) and the grand total comes to somewhere around $128 per tire. was at Sam's Club yesterday, found the exact same tires for $189 (not including installation).

ON WITH THE PICS!!!!!

Order placed 1-28-11......massive storm cripples half the country for 2 days and I still got my tires 6 days(TODAY) after I ordered them.

so score A+ for shipping
communication A+ again

LOOKS......A+++++++++++++

PICS as proof

FED-EX guy came as close to the house as he could safely

LOOKING GOOD

what will be replaced....

and ready to go.....hopefully tomorrow

So far, so good....the transaction was smooth. and based upon the research I did, I assume the tires will last for quite some time. Hopefully others will chime in but mostly, hopefully I will have a "build" thread for the wife's 4runner someday .......just not real soon.

sooooo....

got the tires mounted....I know I've heard bragging about how well they balance, but honestly I'm not certain. He said "they're not bad"....he's a guy of few words.

$65 to change them over and get rid of the 4 old ones...probably 2 of the 4 may be able to be re-sold.

on with the pics.....

ya think she needed new tires???? nice size difference too.

beautiful

old ones

rear tire clearance

front tire....and honestly, no rubbing at full turn....very close....I was nervous

thought this one was pretty cool

no wider than they used to be

and the final product.....now mommy is cool

all in all very pleased....ride is the same, no additional tire noise.

hope to give all good follow-ups on these too.

Just in time too, we're getting snow tomorrow and she has to make the 35 mile journey to work.

Thanks guys. She got to try them out this morning, was snowing pretty hard when she left and she called me on the way to work saying she loved the tires. no noise, no rumble and "were you trying to kill me with those bald tires?" to which I said, "No, that truck is mine when it's paid off...I'll pick a different way for you to meet your maker."

But seriously, even with that close-up photo, the un-trained eye may have trouble seeing that these are not NEW ORIGINAL BFG's.

Thanks for you recommendation Jason. Logan, thanks for making me aware I could fit bigger tires on it without a lift..even though I went taller, not wider. And of course, LUMPY and I went back and forth several times that day via email and he said he would buy them for his other half's vehicle too.

Between the personal recommendations / testimonies via YOTATECH regarding TREADWRIGHT and the research I did regarding tire size this definitely ended up a WIN all around. I'm happy, the kids are happy, but more importantly, the wife is happy....and SAFE.

Looks good! I'm glad I could help with the testimony of TW's and the discount code. Heck I think that's the most I've ever done for someone on here.
