According to Chassis Saver, the product works best on rusty metals compared to bare metals. Have all the peeling issues occurred while applying on bare metal? I just bought some prior to finding this post, so will update in the future...
I painted a completely pitted and pin holed toy wagon with sunrise red rustoleum several years ago. It has never been inside, it has dirt and flowers in it, I do not see any rust on it.
I am restoring a rusty rack body.
If I buy the por 15 cleaner, metal prep, preventative coating, self etch primer(recommended)tie coat primer, paint from my auto supply at $60 a quart, $200 for reducer, it is going to cost me 750 dollars. I am not sandblasting, so there is a chance the rust will come back anyway. $8.46 for a quart of rustoleum is sounding awfully good.

No responses? Was hoping for your 2 cents on this. Ready to start wire brushing tomorrow. My first idea was using chassis saver, but I cannot find how to repaint over it on their website. Kind of given over to the por 15 idea, a quart of preventative coating and a quart of cleaner should not kill me. Just do not want to throw my money away if the rust will still come back. My son in law painted the under fenders of a B Model Mack they used when their father first started their construction company. He said the fenders are down on the scrap heap and are still in good shape. I am more worried about the extreme rust-if it will really last on that.
Very happy. Glad I found this topic in a search about chassis saver. I only bought one quart of preventative coating, one quart of por 15 metal prep, so I did not get hit to badly($'s). Plus, the auto parts store I have been doing business for years only carries por 15. I left the auto parts store and it dawned on me that I am only painting a rack body frame, it did not really matter if it matches the cab, as long as it is green-so I went to tractor supply and bought some $29 a gallon Oliver Green. I have been racking my brain for a year trying to find a shade of green that I am picturing in my mind-looked at every green car you could imagine, paint charts, even looked at paint chips at home depot for household paints and I could not find the color I like. Guess what. The color I have been wishing to find for a year is Oliver Green. Very happy. Seems like a great product, glad I read the warnings of this topic.
I used chassis saver on my 85 three years ago and two winters later, it still looks great. No rust. I stipped the frame to bare metal, followed the instructions and painted it on. If you purchase, buy the satin or matte finish. I chose the gloss and when applying more coats than the first, it is tough to see.
