Before you snorkel think of the trees!
I was about to do a traditional snorkel and was told it would get smashed on trees and indeed it would. I ended up using my stock airbox and adapting pvc to it, (right stuff connections) and i'm running it through the firewall and up above the dash. Looks cleaner, wont get smashed, breath underwater. Good stuff
Have you waterproofed your distributor yet?

yes trees would own a safari snorkel. ive made on before kinda like your describing. except mine just went inside the fender up by the a pillar and just stopped inside the fender there.

oh yea, every time i do a tune up she gets water proofed.

i also seal the wires to the cap and the wire to the coil.

EFI = electronic fish indicator

nice thats some awesome 4x4ing. love the truck its exactly what i want mine too look like. o and i have the stock identical truck as you.
