Snow Wheeling... In Summer!

Today, Sept. 21st is the last day of Summer and guess what I did today!

Yesterday I went and ran one of my favorite trails, Holy Cross. The leaves are changing and are just about perfect! Holy Cross can be a pretty nasty trail but the scenery is awesome and there is something for everyone. I didn't really take any action pictures since Laura and I were alone, but it was an awesome day!

We took Shrine Pass as a Short cut to Holy Cross and checked out the Aspens.

At the first real obstacle I ran into this Jeep, I've seen it around town and I guess he just lives down the street from me. Right after this picture he broke his rear axle and tore his brakeline. I had to go up the obstacle, turn around in the middle of it and then hook up my winch to ease him down the hill to a spot where he could park.

French Creek was nasty, I didn't take any pictures but it was muddy and slippery. A few buggys went through before me and covered all the rocks in mud, I made it though the creek easy but right after was a differant story. I almost flopped the 4Runner and then had to use the winch for a couple feet, but it was fun and it all worked out!

Coming back down the trail

It had been raining all day and when we got back to Shrine Pass it started snowing. I filled up the tires right before Vail Pass.

It snowed all day while I was at work, all I could think about was wheeling! After work I headed up to see how much snow was around. Here's the start of the trail with some aspens in the background.

There was more snow the higher I got, these are around mid way up the trail.

Then I ran into three hikers that tried to summit two fourteeners in the snow storm , that's a good way to get yourself on "I shouldn't be alive". I was almost to the top of the trail, I headed to the end of the trail and picked them up on the way down down and drove them the good ten miles back to town. They had NO idea where they where!

Towards the top the snow let up and it just got cold!

Jeeps suck! It was a lot steeper/harder than it looks, there is also a good two foot hole at the bottom of it.

Yeah, aren't parts of Colorado supposed to get shellacked tonight with snow? I've heard there are some heavy snowfall warnings going on.

They issued a storm warning for 6"-16" but we hardly got anything. It's going to get warm again this weekend so we will see if it sticks around.

I don't think Loveland is opening yet, but A-basin started blowing snow after the storm

I also got to try out the new HID lights! The first picture is of my high beams only (IPF H4 housings with PIAA Xtreme white bulbs). It looks like my headlights suck, but they are really bright. The HIDs are brighter in person too
