Rubicon trip pics

I just got home from my annual 4 day trip to the Con. We always go the week after the 4th and just like past years we pretty much had the trail to ourselves. We only saw one other group all week. There was about 10 of us this year. All were Tacos minus my Runner, a Jeep Rubicon, and old Bronco. Carnage was minimal for a change. We had one broken front axle and a shock hoop ripped off the frame. Other than that some bangs and scrapes and that was about it.

The first night we camped at Wentworth Springs. The first day was from Wentworth to Buck Island. The second day was Buck to Rubicon Springs. It was supposed to be a short till we met 10 sami's in the middle of Big Sluice. That took several hours to get all of us past each other. We still got into the Spings fairly early and we did some swimming and hiking. The last day was the Springs out to South Lake Tahoe. I took a couple hundred pics but here are some of the better ones.

Wentworth Springs campground

This happened from the pavement to camp somewhere... whole shock hoop ripped out

The one and only

This guy brings his CAT on every wheeling trip

One of several SASed tacos on the trip

Pics just don't do this trail justice

Walker Hill

Body damage is cool

Soupbowl... do a youtube search for some crazy vids of this obstacle

Looking down into the start of the Sluicebox

Poser in the Sierras

Killer campspot

Grubbin.. I don't mess around when camping

Buck during the evening....again pics just don't it justice

Leaving Buck the next day

A sweet cruiser with rear steer

Flexy

The way all Toyotas should have been built

Redneck logging truck

Observation point at the end of the trail. We broke into several smaller groups the last day as some got up late and others stayed another day

Nice Joey! How'd the power steering and overheating problem hold up? Wish I could've come, but had to do the swimming thing, story of my life lol I'm meetin some guys up at Cisco Grove and we're gunna wheel Eagle Lakes to Fordyce's first creek crossing then back and run Signal Peak. Should be fun and a good way to test out the locker for real and the new TG crossmember Hopefully I can get some good pics.

IFS... Bald 32" swampers, e-locker rear, ARB front, AUTO tranny LOTS and LOTS of armor that he scraped every inch of, and some dang good line picking. He left the trail head to drive all the way back to Houson, TX!!

My rig did great. No power steering issues at all and she never gets hot when crawling since it's at idle 90% of time. My average speed on the GPS over 17 miles was 0.8 miles per hour

beefed up axles you dont need. dual cases you dont need, 4.7's could be nice. there are plenty of people who have done well on the Con. with 2.8's. what you do need is to just take your time to enjoy your self. i was out at the Con. the the weekend of the 4th and watch a full size chevy climb some big azzzz rocks and it did not look to have any other mods then larg tires and locker with little or no armor. The Con. is not as bad a people make it sound to be, its the soup bowl and the little sluice that will get your in trouble.

Take it easy on the throttle and pick your lines well and you'll make it through without issue!!

I took my '85 thru with the Marlin Round Up last summer with stock 4.10s and 2.28 t-case. I did just fine. But I was definitely gaining on my buddies with their dual stock (2.28) cases. . .

Thanks for the comments. I have so many pics of trucks wheeling that focused a little more on scenery this trip. The trail was in pretty rough shape after all the traffic over the 4th weekend. I would not take a rig through their with stock gears but that is just me. I know it can be done but watching them is like watching a train wreck compared to someone with 4.7's crawling through gracefully. The weather during the summer up there is pretty mild. Most of the trail is between 6000 and 7000 feet. It still get's close to freezing at night. The biggest issue this trip was mosquitos. They are insane up there especially when your camped right on a water source. Just before dark was the worst.

Have fun.. some of our group hiked to Rockbound Lake this trip. Don't forget to stop and get your permit at any Ranger station.
