Reiter Trails run with the Toyota Trail Team 7-15-2006 WA. state

This run was was put on by Rob, president of the WA. state chapter of TTORA www.wattora.com

We had folk's from a few forums turn out.
www.wattroa.com
www.yotatech.com
www.fjcruiserforums.com

What a crowd!
I rode up with Will (WillsFJC) on YotaTech.
Will gets the "brass balls" award.
He took his new black & white FJC through some very knarly stuff.
So knarly I tried to talk him out of it.
We went on a few runs, even witnessed the blue trail team rig which was in front of us take damage to the passenger side, as we were right behind them.
Only Rob and the trail team rig took that line, we all took a bypass.

But back to Will...
Him and I followed Rob in his SAS'd Tacoma and Jim in his truck/4Runner conversion, and we were going over logs and boulders.
I swear I did not think the FJ was going to do this stuff.
Will proved to all of us the capability of this new Toyota.

We came upon a line on this trail that had a huge log on it that we might have got hung up on since he has the running boards on still.
Yes, the rbs took damage.
So we went at an angle to the log with A Trak off, and the E locker on.
He gunned it and it swung us around and we were able to get over the log.

Then he switched the A Trak back on again.
The A Trak is the proven winner for when going over rocks and other obstacles.
We also were on this same trail where we had to traverse a stream that is part of the trail.
There was this steep hill laden with boulders and ruts, yet he made it up.
You can see some of the pics of the Tacoma, truck/4Runner hybrid, and Will's FJ coming up the hill.

Overall I was very super impressed with the FJC, and I think everyone else was too.

It was neat meeting Lost Cosmonaut from the FJ Cruisers forum, and seeing a lot of the gang I use to wheel with from YotaTech long ago.

Revtek had a few of their rigs there, and so did ARB.
And of course the Trail Team had 3 of their FJs there.

This was a very huge event, and we had to break up into groups to go out on the trails.

Mad props and kudos to Rob for organizing this and having some trial leaders helping him out by taking a few out at a time.
There were about 3 different routes we went on.
The last one though that I described above was a real pucker factor.
I almost should have brought some Depends for myself.

I will get a webpage made up later with clickable thumbs, but not enough time right now, so here are some resized pictures.
There are many more than will float in from Will, and a woman and her husband in a blue FJ.
I can not remember their screen name, but they are a member of the fjcruiserforums site.

There were a lot of hot Toyotas there today including 4Runners, Tacomas, the FJ Cruisers, and even an older FJ 40.
My camera crapped out on me, the battery needs to be replaced with a new one, or I would have gotten a lot more pictures.

I can not stress enough what a great event this was, and Will surely takes the brass balls award for doing the trail Rob and Jim took.
I think they were very impressed with it too.

Here are the pictures.

Thanks!
Pic #18 is Dave's FJ80, owner of 4WD Toyota Owner magazine.
That is him in the yellow shirt.

Yeah, I had a great time and I really appreciate the tips Rob and Jim gave me. I'll post the pics I took tomorrow when I get home.

Looks good.

I need to get up there to WA and wheel sometime. Got family there, should just make a trip of it.

I was really impressed with Reiter.
Up where I go up at Greenwater, it is mainly logging roads with some nice tight trails on the side.
But Greenwater also has the infamous Naches trail which can be pretty hairy.

Reiter has areas in it just like the Rubicon, laden with birfield bustin' boulders and logs.
I think if you were to talk with the Toyota Trail Team guy's, they would tell you the same.

Ax, you should come up some time.
Rob (WATRD) has a Naches run set for some time next month.

We will also be doing the tamer Fall Colors Run around mid October or so.
That run is tame, but often some explore the side trails.
We go up to the top to get a good view of Mt. Rainier, then head down to play in the gravel pit.

Thanks!

Cool, just retreived my photo the Trail Team took of me.
They took photos of anyone who wanted one, and passed out some cool stuff too.
I got a pair of work gloves that say FJ Cruiser on them, and a real cool rain proof map case.

Will who I rode up there with got one of those coveted watches.
Lucky guy

Will, just added 23 of your pics to my webpage.

Man, those were my favorite and best shorts I have in the photo above.
Washed them this morning along with my YotaTech baseball shirt, and they are stained with Reiter mud.
That mud is tough I tell ya.

I should have put something on them first.
I will try soaking them in some stain remover, then rewash them again later.

Thanks Corey. Good luck getting that mud out, I fear it may be permanent.

You are just lucky you only had mud on your seats yesterday.
I was gettin' a little nervous on some of those tight turns we were on, and I thought I was gonna pass something past my shorts...

Lets bring the Depends next time for the old farts

That blue one started out as a truck, and he welded in into a 1st gen.
He did all the work himself, including the SAS and those sliderz.
He took some welding classes and went at it.

I got to ride with him after shooting photos on the hardest trail I have ever been on.
Will drove up ahead while I was walking behind, and Jim picked me up.

That thing is a monster.
38" tires I think, and with the low range duel stick boxs in there, he could go up anything, and even with it being a clutch rig, it did not die on account of the low gearing.

We drove right over the tops of some boulders, and the nose was pointing almost straight up.
I had a blast in his rig.

Thats OK, I think all of those Trail Team FJs go to the crusher after November.

I think Toyota should give each of the Trail Team guy's a new FJ Cruiser for all the hard work and sacrifice they have done by camping and touring the US to show off this awsome rig.

I think that may just be a rumor... I was standing with Gustav (lead dude) when the team was packing up and he was going over a required parts list to fix the blue FJ. They were looking to call their parts guy yesterday (Sunday) and have the parts meet them in OR today/tomorrow - they're at Brown's camp this week. So, they're working on them as they crease 'em up.

I'm sure that's for the "brochure appearance", but it seems that they wouldn't work too hard if they were just gonna ditch 'em. Though, they'd have major liability issues if they sold them, so maybe they will crush 'em... bummer.
