How to hydrolock your 22re (vid & pics)

Went wheelin in the pine barrons with an Xterra club. Everything was great untill the part where I killed her. I'm at the end of the video.

Yeah I know, snorkel, snorkel, blah, blah, way to go.

At least the 22re was easy to work on. When I pulled the plugs and cranked out the water, it looked like Free Willy was under my hood. Put the same plugs back in and cranked the hell out of her. Slowly and surely like watching Frankenstein come alive she was running again.

Unfortunately, I think I bent some valves. She starts and idles but has no power. Probably down to about 50hp. But she did make the 40 mile trip home, slowly.

Here's the link to the rest of the vids and pics on the xterra site:

Yuppers. Did compression test. #1 is pushing about 40psi, not 140, 40psi.

Leakdown test showed either cracked head/cylinder, no coolent issues though, or killed a ring. All the blowthrough signaled from the oil fill cap.

that sucks. I would try pulling the plugs and cranking it over. Then wd40 the crap out of it and put it back together. you may just have electrical issues. I did the same thing awhile ago and it started up the next day after I srayed her down.

Normally I do go into them slow but I didn't want to get stuck and have to be pulled out again by an Xterra that made it through.

True. At least I got to drive her home. That tow probably would have cost about $460. It's still a tease though. I can go out there right now and she'll start right up and idle. She lopes a lil bit, but with 3 cylinders, we're not embarking on any adventures any time soon.

What sucks is my now daily driver is a 12sec. Camaro that gets about 12mpg and runs on premium. Ouch.

that sucks jusfloorit really that is crappy

I hope you figured out from all this drama that full throttle haul @$$ into a water hole is a dum dum move that will always result in stall or hyrdo lock unless you have snorkle and rtv siliconed your dizzy cap.

It would of been better to creep and crawl in the hole then give it full gas at the worst you woudl of been stuck with a healthy motor and thats a easy fix a tug from a bud.

MY LUCK JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!!!!

The trans. in my Camaro is taking a dump. It had a monster hole in the exhaust so 2 days ago, I ordered a $300 cat-back for it. I was gonna drive her untill I figured out what i'm gonna do with the Toy. Well yesterday, while driving home, she was driving a little rough. This morning I drive it and it definately felt weird. A vibration, kinda like a bad u-joint at the trans.

My shop calls me and tells me my exhaust is in so I drive over there and pick it up. Each time I drive her it gets worse. I figure i'll know better what's going on when I put the exhaust on. She'll be quieter and less shakey and I'll be able to hear what's going on.

I bolt up the new exhaust and now I can hear it. When you put it in gear it has a weird scuffing sound like a dictionary being slid down a hallway. Now it's starting to shift funny and sometimes when you put it in gear, it hits so hard that it stalls the car. And the vibration, which I thought was because of the big hole, is worse.

I can't win. I have a used 5sp. and all the parts to convert it except clutch kit, master, and slave cylinders (another $300). I could do the swap but with my luck that trans could be bad or will go bad.

Now i'm back to 0 working cars......

whats hydrolock lol im anoob?

the engine cylinders filled with water, water dose not compress like air, the piston stops moving when it cannot compress the water, and the engine stop's,and it usually ends up with the conrod being bent,

I hydrolocked the first engine in my 4rnr, showing off with the kids in the truck. Second engine bad rod bearring after redlining playing in the snow. Yep, I learned the hard way and I'm tired of replacing engines. No more wheel by throttle for me. Good luck.

don't allow water into your engine .... snorkel ... driving slow into water and letting a 'wave' form before you and keeping consistent speed.

hitting a puddle in a parking lot or on freeway can splash water up into your engine bay and kill your motor.

Don't get wet...

For lack of better words keep your intake out of the water. If you filter/airbox is submerged this is bad.
