I just picked up a new to me, '91 4 Runner, 3.0, 5sp, 4wd that had been sitting for a few years, so, I drug it home, cleaned it up, and got it ready for a road test, aired up the tires, checked oil, water, etc. Fast forward... I'm on the freeway and up to speed and all of the sudden it sounds like I lost a tire, a little banging and clunking, a high-pitched buzz, and probably other noises too. I was able to get it off the road and as soon as it got to about 10mph the rear tires locked up, I put it in reverse and rolled back about 5ft. and then drove in first without it locking up until I let off the gas and then it locked up again... lather, rinse, repeat for a half mile until I got it to a safe extraction point. There was no noise, no vibrations, on indication this was about to happen leading up to it. Luckily I had just added it to my insurance the night before so roadside was there in 45 minutes. It'll still drive in reverse (what little I did) but wants to lock up going forward.

My question to the Toyota gurus' is "other than the R&P, is there anything else in there that would cause it to lock up?

Hey guys thought I would post this here as I'm sure someone would know. I just got a new 3VZE in my 89 Pickup, and it's running beautifully, 120 miles on it so far. I'm not sure if my mechanic did the jumper thing when he set the idle or not, but here's the issue. The truck sits around 900-1000rpm at start up, however once I've driven it for 10-15 minutes, then it either hangs or wants to idle at 1900rpm. Hoping it's not a big vacuum leak on the manifold gasket. Another piece of information, sometimes, when sitting at a stop light, it's sitting at 900 ish rpm, if it rev it, then it sticks high at 1900rpm. Could this be TPS? The idle speed adjustment is all the way in if that tells you anything. I'm hoping maybe I can just go through per the manual and reset the idle with jumpers putting it in "idle setting mode". Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Put a new flywheel on my freshly rebuilt 22re. Dropped the engine, had just buttoned up the bell housing to the block, and realized I forgot to put thread locker on the threads of the flywheel bolts.

Reused the bolts that were on the old flywheel, didn't clean them as they looked fine. All bolts went in smoothly, started by hand and were torqued down to 80 ft/lbs and triple checked..

Trying to decide if I'm going to drop the tranny, or move on and start the cam run-in tomorrow.

Any input or advice much appreciated.

I’m looking to replace the 22re that’s in my 4Runner with a ‘82-83 22r. I’m replacing since my 22re spun a rod bearing and I need to start over, and there’s a good deal on an early 22r. I’ve read that I will need a new distributor, lower fuel pressure, and possibly a different exhaust manifold. Will my wiring plug into this setup or will I need a new harness? What else do I need to do this swap?

thank you

My 89 just got a new 3VZE! I'm pretty excited about it, the last engine had a dead piston so it was necessary. I'm wondering if you guys have any advice on things to look out for in the beginning or any other upgrades I should be doing. I've put 100 miles on it so far still in the break in period with the heavier oil. I love this truck so much and looking forward to many years with it. Thought I would share!
My HiLux runs out of fuel fast..like less than 40 miles. When it does, it only takes 3 gallons to fill it. I took the access panel of (inside the bed, Driver’s side) and here’s what I found. The fuel tank is below the bed. The black reservoir in the picture is inside the access panel , above the fuel tank.
any ideas what the problem might be…and how to fix it?
I’ve tried finding a new fuel tank…no luck so far…

Hello all. I have an 85 pickup with manual window regulators. The problem is that the passengers side window will come out of the window regulator if you attempt to roll it down. The rubber piece that the glass sits in inside of the regulator itself is gone. Its not in the bottom of the door either. Was trying to find one online with no luck. The regulator operates as it should. Does anyone know where to find one?

Hello everyone, I just got a 86 Toyota pickup with a 22re, it had sat for about 8 years before I fixed the gas tank then it fired up for about 3 minutes, after that I’d go to start it then it would run for about 1-4 seconds then shut off. I jumped the Fp and b+ diagnostic port to get it continuously running, along with a new fuel filter. Same problem. Pulled the intake manifold and fuel rail to clean the injectors. Pretty sure I did a good job. I have power to all my injectors as well. AFM opens as it should, not to sure where to go from here and it does run on starting fluid. Thanks guys!

I've attempted a while back on my old parts 2nd gen, but just broke the whole thing. I can't break this one taking it off and I don't know exactly where to pull to take it off without snapping the clips/tabs holding it on on the back.
Thanks!

1988 SR5 pickup 22RE 2WD 470K
My pickup has recently developed a habit of clicking without starting. I am trying to be methodical with it.
For example, today I checked the battery before starting: 12.8 volts, but the relays clicked and the engine wouldn't crank.
After I attached the battery charger for 5 minutes, it started right up although it cranks longer (due to, I think, flooding from the fuel pump relay).
I drove to town and made several stops without a problem
I replaced the ignition relay recently and haven't had a problem until after I reconnected the dash-mounted temp gauge after removing the lower dash and fiddling with the brake booster mounting nuts.
There might be a slight battery drain, but the engine should start with 12.8 volts.
Do any of you know what the problem might be?
