Is the cruise control supposed to disengage if you use your turn signal? I am sorting out an electrical butcher job by the P.O. of my truck and wanted to know if this is normal behavior or not. Seems a bit odd to me.
Thanks!

Hi guys, I just bought a new (to me) 93 sr5 3.slow today.... picked it up and had a 400 km drive back home. The only problem I am having is with the lights. They say on the headlight glass H4, so I am assuming they were at one point converted from the sealed beam headlights to these. The lighting is terrible, not bright enough AT ALL on the highway at night. This is my second yota of this vintage and my old one had "diamond cut" ebay headlights and they were brighter than these!! I know there is a mod for better wiring and I am thinking that might be what needs to be done, or an HID conversion... BUT on the other had I noticed when i switched from low beam to high beams, the headlights actually go BLACK for a fraction of a second before the high beam flicks on. Vice versa when swtiching from Hi to Lo beam. What could be the cause of this? Could it just be a bad set of H4 bulbs? Thanks!

Okay, so after searching and searching I am at a stand still! When I go to open my windows or basically do anything the gauge in the 4runner seems to dramatically drop! The lights dim the whole works, so from what I know from the little electrical work I have done is that its probably got a wire with a small gauge that doesnt allow enough power. So if I am way off or if someone can help me out a bit it would be greatly appreciated! We can get this thread going or go ahead and pm me! It would help me out tons!

Hello I am having trouble starting my pickup. One of the problems is it is 20 below and only getting colder (can't be fixed). When I turn the key the engine revs up for about three seconds and then dies. It was starting just fine even when cold. When trying to start it a friend noticed a spark come from the passenger side of the engine. Upon further investigation I noticed a loose wire (heavy gauge black with white stripe). I think this might be the problem. The end of the wire has a large metal ring. I think this wire comes from the positive terminal. There are three wires coming off the terminal 1. to starter 2. is to fuse box 3. Thick Black wire with white stripe ?

OK - this is more of an annoying issue that my wife calls the truck's psychotic turn signals.. :

When I use the turn signals - they blink normal for about 3 or 4 intervals.. then they speed up.. slow down... speed up...

it is kind of funny and it passes the state safety inspection but it is crazy and I'd like to fix it. I searched around and didn't see any other posts that referred to this but I suspect it is the flasher/turn signal relay?

i parked my truck in may for the summer and shortly after firing it up again in september, i i noticed that my hazards and horns weren't working. being that they are on the same circuit, i checked the fuse first and sure enough it was blown, but after replacing it, only the hazards work. i've pulled the horns and wired them direct to the battery and confirmed that they are both shot. everything was working fine when i parked the truck and it was stored without the battery. what would cause this? they are fiamm freeway blasters for what it's worth.

Back-up Lights on the trailer

As I'm about to finish all mechanical work on building an expedition trailer and start wiring portion of it, I come up with an idea of using flood light as my back-up light on the trailer. Those lights are rigid enough to withstand the abuse trailer will have and give an option of lighting up the terrain behicnd the trailer when I back it up.
Regarding all this I have a question Toyota can't answer me. I do drive 2005 4Runner, but this may be answered by other members driving other vehicles as well. My OEM 7-way connector has back-up light wire as well as 12v power wire. Would back-up wire in my original trailer harness hold up for 2 55W bulbs in back-up lights? How much would that wire hold? How much is 12v power wire designed to hold? I think I saw only 1 fuse for trailer harnes in my fuse block if I'm not mistaken as it was a long time ago when I was checking this out.
ANy thoughts, ideas and opinions will be very much appreciated as I'm about to start wire it up within a day or two.

I needed a cheap project to work on since I don't have any money to start any big projects. I've been gathering stuff for rock lights for years...

I needed a cheap project to work on since I don't have any money to start any big projects. I've been gathering stuff for rock lights for years (like 6 :D ) and I figured this would be a great time to put it all together.

I also wanted a fuse block to be able to add electrical components like a CB & additional 12v power sources.

I decided to go with 2 6-port fuse blocks. I also bought an ABS plastic project box from Radio Shack to hold all the fuse blocks and relays for the lights.

For lights, I have a pair of 6" KC lights that I plan on putting on the front bumper. I also have 2 sets of small 55w lights from Wal-mart that are designed to go on the front of a small car. They fit perfect in the places I wanted them. I want one set on the front bumper pointed down in front of the front tires and another set between the F&R tires along the frame. I also have a rectangle set of lights to point behind the rear tires.

The 6" KC's will be on their own relay and switch. The 4 small rock lights in front and middle of the 4Runner will be on their own relay and switch. And the rear 2 lights get their own relay and switch.

Onto the pictures!

I plan on putting the project box with all the stuff in it on the left hand side. It will mount on the passenger side fender and on top of the shock hoop. I will have to relocate one thing.

Top view of the box with the fuse block mounted on the sides, relays in the middle and all the wires running out of the side. Each fuse block has 8ga wire feeding it. The left relay is a 40a that feeds the front KC lights. The middle is a 40a that will run the 4 small rock lights and the right relay will run the back lights. The power & ground wires for the relays are 12ga and the wire for the switch will be 18ga.

Pics of the side mounted fuse blocks. Plently of room to expand if needed.

Close up of the relays and wires

Front 6" KC lights that I got for free 6 years ago from a friend. They should work out fine on the front bumper. When I get some time, I will paint them black rather than the worn out chrome.

I've got 2 sets of these small lights for the front and middle rock lights.

Rear lights

Overall shot of my tailgate work bench with all the wire, connectors, and other crap :D The battery jump box has been nice, I've been able to test my wiring before I put it in the truck. I tested all 3 relays and they all work as planned.

I'm done with the project box, I now need to get it installed under the hood. mount the 8 lights and get some power wires ran to each of them. I hope to get it done this week before my wheeling trip next weekend.

I'm installing a pair of tractor style work lights on my rear bumper and want to wire them so they come on automatically when I go in reverse but also want to be able to turn them on on demand.

I'll be using a relay and tapping the reverse light to hook up to #86 on the relay to trigger the relay to turn on. I also want to put an independent switch hooked up there to turn them when ever I need light.

My question is, how to wire up the switch so I don't back feed the reverse lights and damage the factory circuit?
