I have a set of front and rear gears 5.29 that are on a 2nd gen 3rd member. front and rear.

I also have some front torsion bars for the second gen as well.

So what I would like to know is;

Will the diff-3rd's fit into a 1st gen?
Will the Torsion bars work?

Spec;
2nd Gen: 1994 3.0 V6, auto, IFS 4x4
1st Gen: 1987 22RE, 5 speed, IFS 4x4

Last, what if any differences are there in front suspensions? Were the arms or anything changed?

I made some arms for the 94, and now I want to build the 87. The 1st gen just seems cooler.

Thank you for your help guys! I tried to search but could not find what I was looking for. Must not have the right combination of words...

Hi,

I just bought a 2000 Toyota 4runner Limited and it came with factory 16 inch rims. My (noobie) question is will a set of 15 inch tires (other year factory rims or aftermarket) fit without problems clearing the calipers, etc.?

I just would like to stress the 4runner being a 2000 Limited.

Any pics of owners with the same aftermarket rim size?

Any limitations going to 15? The reason why i am wanting this size is to have more tire size choices.

Thank you.

PS- yes, i did search a bit but did not come with answers.

Hello to all. I recently purchased a 94 Runner 3.0 with an obvious "klattering" noise. It turned out to be a completely wiped out rod bearing. So I pulled the engine, and went back in with a new crank and bearings. (mains and rods). New seals and timing belt. Everything else seemed ok, so nothing else was replaced. At initial start up, and since then (it has about 200 miles on it now) it's making a slight "ticking/tapping" noise. It's definately not a deep klatter like before. I can hear it from inside while driving with everything off and the windows up. If the windows are down, I can't hear it, (just for an idea of how loud it is). It does seem to run with the RPM. It seems just a bit quieter when its cold. I'm looking for any suggestions as to what it may be. Could it be valve train noise? Fuel Injectors? It has 163K miles on it, and supposedly the Engine was replaced with a remanufactured one about 80K miles ago. Everything else seems to be fine, performance is ok, no missing or other obvious problems or noises. I would be glad to post pictures or video if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I am at the last stage of getting the pickup, (86 4 x4, carbed, man trans) ready and was trying to get it started last night. The tank has been dry for about a year and a half. I put about 3 gallons in it and then poured a little in the carb. It fired up great then died once it burned through what was in the carb. I did this about 10 -12 times trying to get the gas from the tank through the lines and to the carb. Still nothing. Any suggenstions?

Hey guys, just to give you a little background.. I have never been real fawned of working on my vehicles, but it has always been better then being a slave to a car note. So i have very little experience working on engines and cars in general other then figuring it out by reading the Manuel.

Now that that's out of the way, i recently sold my 87' Ford F150 because it was getting to the point where it was going to cost me more to fix it then it was worth. My brother has built up a few toyota pickups and said that if i was to go through and build a new motor the thing would be very reliable.

So i picked up a 4" lifted 87' 4runner on swampers with a blown head gasket for $1000... straight body, needs paint/interior. My idea was to then put the remaining $1000 into building a real nice big valve engine. After registration and all that jazz im about $300 shy from the engine i was hoping to build. I did however, get the big valve head and rebuilt bottom end with new bearing ect.

Now, to dive a little deeper and get to the root of this thread! Everyone says these engines are very easy to build/work on. My brother told me he would help build this engine and get it running for me, but it is just not seeming to work out with him. I was hoping to get some feedback on books or any reference material necessary to get this 22re built and operating properly! the snow season is right around the corner and im going to be in deep with the wife if dont pull this thing together.

I have found some great resources on timing chain replacement and upgrading to DOA steel timing guides, ARP Head Studs and things like that, but im afraid thats not enough to keep me from destroying this piece of machinery.

I can understand its probably hard to assist me not knowing my knowledge of car mechanics, but i assure you im a total newb!

My truck is not registered right now. I start it once a every week or two, but, aside from the battery, I've never had any mechanical problems in the year or so I've been tinkering with it. When I started it today, I let it run for longer than usual because it'd been closer to two weeks than one since I last started it. I noticed the engine temp was right on the edge of normal operating temp. This concerned me because it was only idling. I checked the coolant level in the overflow tank, fine; I checked for coolant in the oil, which also looked fine (Though I've never actually seen what blown HG oil looks like). The guy I bought it from told me he'd recently doen the HG. Is this a problem, or am I being overly cautious?
