I am hoping for some advice about my cv axles. The boot on the driver's side outer cv joint just tore and the passenger side boots are about to go, obviously dry and cracked. My truck has 167K miles and I believe the axles are original equipment.

My decision is whether to reboot the old cv joints/axles or to replace them with remanufactured axles. I have no obvious problems currently, i.e. no clicking or popping in turns. The truck is my DD, and the need for 4wd is mostly seasonal with the occasional winter snow. Yet 167K on the current axles is getting on up there.

If I go reman, I know I should avoid the cheapo chinese joints. I have had good experiences with remaned axles from Raxles in Florida as well as Axles Unlimited in Charlotte, NC on my Civic and my Volvo wagon.

Reboot or reman... what should I do?

Thanks,

Got a 95 4runner, 3VZE automatic 2wd. Until today, cruise control worked fine. Now, when I attempt to set it, the cruise light just blinks and won't. Any ideas?

Also, the engine idles about 1250 in park or neutral, which seems a bit high to me.

Thanks for any input

Hey guys I am about to get new tires on my 86 4Runner, I currently have a 3" body lift with 31's on it and I really like the look of it (space between wheel and fender and everything/not to much but still plenty). Im going to be getting some 33x12.5 TLS Radials on my 15x10 Classic II's I already have sitting in my garage and what I'm wanting to do is a little suspension lift to get a better ride and retain the same look going I have now so I don't have my tires crammed up in my fenders. Both my leaf springs and torsion bars are worn down bad. So heres what I'm planning on doing and ya'll let me know what you think. I already ordered the OME Torsion bars and they are sitting in my room, I plan on getting some 1" lift springs from somewhere (open to suggestions!) for the back and getting new shocks and Ball Joint Spacers. I already have a diff drop and the sway bar drop installed in the front with 4.88 gears(already installed in the front) and the rear 4.88 gear chunk ready to go in. My primary question is should I go with some 3/4" or 1" Ball Joint spacers? I know its not much of a difference but I really dont want to overdo it and make my truck look stupid but at the same time I like it to sit above the tires a little bit. Im also taking into account that since my rear springs are worn down so bad that putting new ones in will even lift it a little bit. So im guessing 1" lift springs will accually lift it a little more than an inch.Plus I have a bigger overload spring out of a pickup and trashed my original so that probably lifts it a little as well, probably a little less than 1/4 of an inch but I plan to continue to use it. Let me know what yall think! Thanks!

So I got my winch today from Winch Depot(same company as 4wheelparts.com but $70 cheaper found out by calling both a doing the best price match and the guy I was talking to told me they are both owned by the same company but was surprised at how much cheaper they were then 4W.P. Winch Depot was shipped to my door $549 with a free cover, 4WP.com $619 + $19.99 for cover) I got the XRC Comp series with Synthetic rope instead of the cable which was $399 So here it go's

Here it is as it was dropped off by UPS (finally got a fast delivery from them 3 days from Fl.lol)

I was surprised to find it was double packaged in the cardboard so that was cool a little extra cushion

Then there was all the styrofoam to keep it safe and solid in the second box

After unpacking this is what you end up with

After following the excellent wiring diagram and wiring it up (the 8k I bought last year and a half ago they had no wiring diagrams guess they got a lot of calls about the wiring and decided it might be a good idea to add some lol)

Notice they tag the wires now as well.

So I went to test fit it in the winch plate and sure enough to tight to fit with out taking the bumper off or at least one side so I could get the extra 2-3" needed to drop it down into place. It is a very tight fit with all the a/c lines and the a/c cooling fan on the right side but she did fit down inside very nicely once she sat in place.Thank goodness my grill was already pre cut because that would have been a pain to do at the same time as the install well not really but at least a big inconvenince.

I could not get the control box to mount on the top of the barrel like they show (plus I will be able to put the cover now when not in use and yea it came in a box all by itself) because I need to cut a few inches of the grill still to fit under so here's what I came up with to hold it over .I also need to shave a 1/4 of the hawles lead thing to fit it under the bottom bar of the bumper so it will fit but it is getting dark out and I have to go do a few things so I will finish this tomorrow and for some reason the site keeps screwing up this thread removing pics and mixing words up so i guess this is a good place to stop for now.

ok, I'm baffled.

I wheel the rig several times a year and have had zero mechanical issues.
I park it after wheeling one weekend, come back 3 weeks later and issues:..

starts-dies in bout 3 seconds cold.
Do this about 21 times and start feathering throttle and can eventually keep it running,...then, shut it off (not even fully warmed up yet) and it will start and idle (albeit missing a bit) all day long no problem, but absolutely NO POWER. Can't even climb up on a trailer in LOW!

so far:
-checked fuel pressure at idle just before filter....steady 40's
-changed fuel filter
-good spark
-new plugs, wires, cap, rotor
-swapped MAF meter w/ buddy's, no change
-checked battery grounds, positive,....wires in general.
-Found a cpl misc vacum leaks......fixed those. no change
-Been up over, under around the rig looking for burnt/shorted wires....will ----continue to look.
-pulled timing cover......belt looks good as new and top 2 pulleys have marks pointing same direction
-pulled intake....throttle body flapper seems loose and moves when revved.
-at idle at least, it does appear that each cyl is contributing....pulled each plug wire and could tell an even further skip w/ each.

We did roll the distributor all the way right and that gave it enough power to actually drive it a bit.
That lasted most of a day while I wheeled what I could.....couldn't make any steep climbs though....as it got worse towards end of day.

Did have some bad gas in it earlier this year and have driven on that gas prior to this issue. Again, this issue just "happened" while it simply sat in the driveway for 3 weeks.

I did short out my winch relay box bout a year ago......shorted for around 2 min before I could get battery unhooked........VERY hot 4ga wire!:) not sure if that could play a role or not, but...........again, has been wheeled and driven numerous times since that incident.

Check engine light has been on since I've owned it (few years).
Can't get any codes to pull off it.......bad ECU?
I'm out of clues.
any input would be appreciated.

So,

My truck (88 4runner, 22re, 5 speed) pops up the lean condition check engine code only when I hit highway speeds. Never, not once, while driving around town. It pretty much always does this within 20 minutes or less of hitting 55mph or higher.

Timing, valve clearance and other tuneup stuff has been done with no success.

Otherwise it drives great - never overheats, plenty of power, gets close to 20mpg on the highway which seems awesome for 33's.

Thoughts? Why only at 55 and up?

Thanks for any help!
For the most part, the engine runs great, but once in a while, pretty randomly, it will backfire. I don't have any idea what causes it, and I want to try to fix it before my truck dies on me.
Any advice will be appreciated.
