I have a rough idle problem. It pops black smoke through the tailpipe about 75% of the time. The other 25% it idles fine. I'm guessing its a float or needle and seat. Sometimes it turns over hard at startup, more in cold weather than warm. I'm thinking more like the float is sticking. Any ideas?

I've taken a look at the manual, but before I start hitting stuff with a hammer I'd like to get some input or know how.

The FSM says to put the inner shaft in a vice to hold it and then tap the inner race with a brass bar (don't have one, but i'm sure I could find something). I'm guessing that is the part inside the cage that they talk about in the FSM. I also see a snap ring that appears to be on the inner shaft. Do I remove this before trying to hit the inner race with a brass bar?

Just curious, if there is anything else holding it in besides friction, as that's what the fsm makes it sound like?

I believe I can get the rest if I can get some information on disassembly of the two shafts.

Hey guys I found a set of almost new, as in only been sitting on a build truck. They only have about 1000 miles on them before the build and its been all highway miles. The guy is selling Fronts and rear springs for $150. He said that they still have the downey name on them and are in nice shape. I was hesitant at first about used suspension usually somebody elses junk, but I am thinking about getting them, new springs all the way around for about 1/3 of new pricing. Does anybody here run them, and are you all happy with them or not. Do they have a sagging problem over time compared to other brands. I have heard mixed reports from others about the performance of Downey springs. I was looking at marlin and trail gear but don't want to relocate a bunch of stuff, I do mild off roading but nothing serious. Do these things have any flex or are they pretty stiff?
Thanks for the advice:coffee:

on the shim thickness to use. I know that it may be different on mine, but It seems the FSM has a tool that you need to use in order to actually calculate the thickness you would need (it is one of the measurements they take). My question is, it says that the the shim thickness should be about .040", but is that total shim thickness for the top and bottom combined, or just the shim thickness on the top bearing cap and then another .040" thick shim on the bottom cap as well? It seems it could be interpreted either way.

Hey Guys-
I'm kind of in a bind here, wondering if anyone can help. I just got my engine all buttoned up and found a small bag of parts the machine shop had given me. A couple of them I expected, and knew where they went on the engine, but a couple of them threw me for a loop.

From what I have read, I think they are the large Oil Galley Plugs.

I was wondering if anybody had any good pictures of these plugs (installed or not) and the location that they go on the 22re engine. I've done some searching but haven't found a picture yet.

I want to make absolutely sure I know here they go because I believe I left one off the front of the engine, but I literally have the entire thing buttoned up and ready to drop back in. This means I will need to pull the whole thing apart and replace every gasket, etc on the engine again if that's the case... :con::pop::barf:

In any case, any pics would be greatly appreciated before I start my arduous task of undoing all the work I've done over the last 2 1/2 months (woohoo). Thanks.
