3vze engine troubles

Posted 05-01-2009 at 04:51 PM by sbecker 94 4-runner
Hello yota fans, I am new on this site. Stubbled on it tryin to find a ac diagram for my 94 toyota 4-runner. Bought it with a blown motor (3 connecting rods busted and crank twisted). Rebuilt engine from the ground up. New exhaust, radiator, etc. Problem is, i have no power, is has some but not like it should, fuel mileage is not bad considering its a 4 wheel drive, but could be better, and i can't get my temp gauge to read normal. Its not overheatin (i dont think) but it runs a little over the half way mark. And i can't get the front diff. to lock in. It has the auto hubs, so how does the 4x4 indicator box that is bolted to the diff work. Is that were the fork is to lock in the front diff. I have no lights comin on when i engage the 4 wheel drive, the transfer case is engaging and the front driveshaft spins but the axle is not locked in. Been messin with cars and trucks every since i was little, practically grew up in a junk yard, but i gotta say this is my first yota and i like it, but toyota is it's own breed, and everything i do this is a learning experience. Hope i can get it lined out with some help.

Does your truck gear down when you lock it in 4low? Or does it do nothing? and for your heating, check your temp sensor because you probably already put in a new t-stat during the rebuild. right?

your lights might not be coming on if the wire is unhooked. look on the driver side and there should be a wire going down to your diff. and maybe you should switch to manual hubs. thats what im doin as soon as my autos go out...or sas!!!

all that is behind it is the gears for your diff. and that fork. but if the driveshafts are turning then the fork has nothing wrong with it. it sounds to me that the spline on your auto hubs are having a problem. maybe striped out. so you need to replace them. the only problem with going with manual hubs is that you have to change your diff. and possibly your t-case.
