Thoughts? Fuel inj & no compression in cylinder 4

Posted 05-11-2012 at 02:32 PM by zekesan
I failed my smog test..I knew it would fail because of some engine issues..but my buddy and I wanted to see how bad the #'s were..so heres the deal. We did a compression test and heres what we found:

cylinder #1= 175 psi
cylinder #3= 180
cylinder #5= 180
cylinder #6= 170
cylinder #4=0
cylinder #2= 175

There was also gas on the #3 cylinder spark plug.. (which we are guessing we need a new fuel injector) ..for the cylinder we are thinking its...

Finally drove my truck after 3 months

Posted 11-28-2011 at 03:54 PM by AbeWhat
I rebuilt my carb, and replaced some electrical parts on the pickup at the end of the summer. Of course I finished up the day I moved into a new apartment haha. Then I got sent to StL for 2 months for work. No truck = BOOOO! Oh, well it was fine. I got back last week, squirted some carb cleaner, jumped the battery and boom, it's running like a dream. I haven't had a chance to really drive it too much, just warm it up. I'm looking forward to winter and snow though haha. Now, back to browsing YT.

So got to check that before I can drive it. So its sitting at my moms. My father in law is gonna bring down his F350 and trailer and tow it back to my house for me when he gets back in town. Its crazy of all the car guys i know not 1 of us have a big enough trailer. So have to sit and wait. My wife said that...

wow buying a house sure slows truck work down

Posted 08-10-2011 at 07:39 PM by chosenchange
So the purchase of my house has really put a belt around my whole budget for a build. I am kicking myself for buying a house without a garage but price and back yard are right. I am starting the rebuild on my engine in my living room cause I figure i need to get that done before a girl wants to live in my house with me cause I know that would never fly. I bought a dvd on how to take apart a 22r from start to finish and I think I should be able to follow directions. The engine itself is a japan...

First Fix in the Eighty-Six

Posted 07-21-2011 at 05:11 AM by AbeWhat
I just finished my first "easy" off-roading trip with this truck at the Silver Lake Dunes in Michigan. I have to say, it was a lot of fun. I came away with only two things to fix; 1: Passenger window jumped out of the track, 2: Vac. leak somewhere around the carb.

One of those is a quick fix, the other, not so much. I definitely think I am going to un-crank my torsion bars (PO's work not mine) and lift the front end proper. After the carb is fixed of course. On another...

Back in the Saddle

Posted 06-14-2011 at 12:54 PM by AbeWhat
Just getting settled in my new 1986 P/U. I definitely have an itch to take it on a trip. An easy Offroading/Camping trip in Michigan next month, a Colorado mountain biking trip in the fall, and a winter Baja run are coming together. Brushing up on all of my off road etiquette, skills, equipment, accessories and favorite swear words.

I'm looking forward to getting out of the City/Burbs for a while.

OME Suspension Lift

Posted 05-15-2011 at 09:51 PM by srozell
Updated 05-15-2011 at 09:58 PM by srozell
I ordered the OME 3" heavy duty suspension lift from 4Crawler. I got the 4 shocks, the springs, the caster kit and the steering stabilizer.

At about 8:30 at night my buddy and I decided to see what was involved in installing it, and by 10:00 we had the front shocks and springs installed.

Installation was straight forward, We jacked up the frame, then pulled the tires. We compressed the springs, and they came out easy enough. Putting the springs back in required...

holy exhaust nightmare!!!!

Posted 03-23-2011 at 07:13 PM by chosenchange
So my truck seems to let exhaust out everywhere it can. So I decide oh well that will be an easy fix a few gaskets a little new pipe n muffler and I am there! Well turns out the four bolts on top of the exhaust manifold where standard stripped out and pieced together with all sizes of bolts! I had to drill and tap all 6 holes that bolt to the head and the four the air rail bolts into. I then find out that there is was no gasket between the down pipe and the manifold. There of course was no...

recap, recoup, and a summary of the past few months.

Posted 03-23-2011 at 10:46 AM by mightymouse
I'm writing this as a memoir to look back at and hopefully giggle at my past.
Well to start off the past seven or so months have been tough. My truck burnt down and i lost it. The thought of rebuilding it crossed my mind but i went a different route for several reasons. I also quit smoking at about that time as well and to say the whole truck burning down was a trial by fire for my nerves is and understatement. I smoked for 15 years and was a pack to a pack and a half a day smoker. Cold...

knuckle rebuild

Posted 01-19-2011 at 05:36 PM by chosenchange
Well got the knuckle rebuild done. It took me about 12 hours in total to get it all done as the knuckles were real grimy and I dont have a parts washer so it was alot of scrub time. I repacked the bearings and replaced the rotors and brakes. For some strange reason when I tighten the lower caliper bolt it clamps the brakes closed I am not sure what that is about so for now I just put a two washers on it and that solved the problem. I am going to step up to a v6 set up soon anyway as I want to...

carb swap n truck build

Posted 12-27-2010 at 07:16 PM by chosenchange
I have not had enough money to purchase a weber carb so I found a carb online that was rebuilt a year ago. This is always a yeah right anything being sold runs the best. It was going to be better then what I had and only set me back 100 bucks. It came out of a 85 22r which was fairly close to mine but was missing one vacuum line near the top. Other then the rain and darkness coming in to quick install was a success and it is running much better!! Tonight I also rewired the license plate light....

For those with the factory Aluminum wheels. You must tell the tire balance tech. that the wheels must be balanced with the cone mount to front. If not the wheels will be slightly out of balance at various speeds. I lived with this problem on occaision for the past 6 years.:guitar:
