4Runner SR5 2001 Leaking rear differential

Has anyone ever seen this happen before, leaking rear differential through the steel hull on the back side which has to be a quarter inch thick steel, [approximate]. See attached photos.
I just bought this vehicle, took it for a test drive and found this happening. The rest of the vehicle is like brand new - it only has 95,000 miles on it.
This looks like a manufacturer defect. Does anyone think that I might get Toyota to replace the differential under warranty?
I purchased this vehicle through USAA's car buying service on-line and out of state 600 miles away and had the vehicle delivered. The car was sold as is with no warranty. I purchased the vehicle from Carousel Motors in Iowa City, IA. So far the manager won't return my calls, nice!
