I do belive you can. It is just a speaker. I used a battery back up on my Tahoe and then changed it out to a different one later.
As long as the brain mod is not messed up. I cant remember if you can set the alarm off and read a voltage on the wires to check. I got a message in to my bro (he has 15yrs exp) to see whats up.
