As you can see here the 3.0 and 3.4 auto shifters are a lot different:

I made a cardboard template of the bottom of the 3.4 shifter and cut the floor board for the new shifter:

I saw this link on my many searches for info and liked the idea of keeping my center console as stock looking as possible: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/autocrawler/ So I ordered a console for a 1989-1995 4cyl 4WD AT Truck with gray interior (part #58802-35031-BO). I think the BO part of that number is the color code. The parts guy said there are not many of these consoles available. It comes with the leather boot but I ordered a second boot for my extra TC shifter that will come up (hopefully) in the middle of the coin cup thingy.

As Phil points out in his write-up the 4 cyl auto console matches the rest of the V6 console very well but because the 3.4 shifter is higher than the older auto shifters it requires either raising the whole console off the floor to match the shifter or cutting the console up so the shifter can stick up through it. After test fitting for a while I decided to go a different route than Phil and try cutting up this brand new $50 console.

After cutting and fitting and cutting and fitting and cutting and fitting and.....30 more times cutting and fitting, I got this:

My plan now is to make a little skirt to cover the cut out for the shifter. I have no doubt I can make it look good it's just a matter of how much time will it take
