I don't know why, but it seems like on the 4Runner, the oil filter "sticks", or becomes very difficult to remove, where on the p/u it spins right off with no trouble. Don't know why. But I reach them both the same way, reaching down parallel to the block above the A/C. It IS a little tougher on the 4Runner with all the intake stuff in the way, but same basic principle. I didn't even know about the little hatch in the wheel well until just recently. Sure wish I'd known about it the first time I'd tried to replace the fuel filter, though. Took me over 4 hours...
