I did both. I followed this write-up to convert the existing outlets: http://www.cableone.net/marzonie/Full-Time-Power.html It's a very simple jumper in place of the power outlet relay in the fuse box under the hood.

Here's a pic -- it's the lower jumper:



BTW, yes, it does affect the rear outlet.

Another nice thing about this mod is that it can be reversed in about 5 seconds.

I also added a couple of outlets on the driver's kick panel to allow the cable for my GPS to be plugged in without hanging down the front of the dash.
