I just bought an 01 Sequoia with 104K on the clock. It's a 2wd limited and it's perfect for hauling all my damn kids around and looking like a total suburbanite like I'm supposed too. I like that it can tow and it's bigger than the titanic. It feels like a tank to drive.
The chick wanted $8500 for it. It books for $12.5K so I took it for a spin, everything seemed great except that the A/C was not working. I offered $7.5K and she bit. It cost me $960 to get the compressor replaced and get cold air in it. I fixed all the little problems in the interior and all the buttons now work. I did a tune up and it pepped up a bit and ran smooth. Life is great until...
About two days after purchase I noticed a quiet growling that I could feel through the pedal after getting up to about 35 miles per hour. Over the course of a couple days it got worse and I nailed it down too fourth gear, then figured out that when I turn the O/D off the noise goes away.
This is a pretty bad noise now with a scrape scrape scrape noise when slowing around a corner and a nice growl with a metal sound under light acceleration in overdrive. Without the OD engaged there is no noise.
I've pretty much conceded that the Tranny is toast. This sucks, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel (I can't really I've got money tied up in this now).
I've been told the tranny is a A340F, is this correct?
How much should I expect to pay for a used replacement?
What is the short list of donar vehicles that I should be looking at?
Is there some unknown factor (to me) that is going to bite me in the ass when I replace this myself?
Thanks for you help
