The biggest problem I have (personally) with a V8 swap is the application of torque when you hit the go pedal and when you let the clutch out shifting gears. Granted, that would be mitigated by using an automatic (no sudden shock to the gear set as with a clutch), but a turbo is somewhat more subtle, and likewise more gentle on the driveline, when it comes on to boost.
Despite the higher net output, the turbo could be more gentle on the gears and driveline.
