I had the same situation but my fix was very much different. My driver's side floormat was soaked after driving in the rain (like what was stated) except I could not find any trail of wetness anywhere. It turned out to be one of my body plugs was leaking from the outside. It leaked so much so that the carpet was getting moldy. I took out my body plug and filled it with silicone sealant and called it good!
