Hub Help
Hello everyone!
I'm new here and so far I like what I see.
I know this issue i'm having might be getting old to you guys, but still I need some help. My 1986 4runner came stock with automatic locking hubs. The other day I was coming home from UGA and the front wheel on the passenger side was making this really annoying grinding noise, I figured either hub or my bearing. It got so loud that if I pull up to a red light, the people inside the store at the intersection was turning their heads. Well I pulled over and tried for about 15 minutes to get the hubs to unlock by backing up and pulling forward over and over and eventually I got them to unlock, and the noise stopped...well when I got home I guess my dirt road made it start doing it again. I pulled the auto locking hub off the passenger side , and if you shake the assembly you can hear stuff jingling around. Since i've never messed with auto hubs i'm not sure what it is. So i've read here and a few other places that you can change it to manual, and increase the life of the axles and other things. I want to know if I can just go to pull a part or something and just get manuals and just pull the autos off and swap them. And what all parts and some techniques anyone would recommend for the process. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
